Elizabethtown

On behalf of Elizabethtown, it must be said that this movie is one of the best of the year. Original, funny, excellent characters, wonderful performances, magnificent story and it leaves you with a sense of whimsical cheeriness. The storyline is a little crazy, but it's a crazy story. Go with it. Everyone should go see this movie. I haven’t seen a movie this complete and enjoyable since Good Will Hunting nor as sanely funny as Somethings Got to Give.

If you check out the online reviews, you'll find very little to rave about, but the critics are idiots on this one.

Susan Sarandon, Alec Baldwin, Bruce McGill, Kirsten Dunst & Orlando Bloom all put on wonderful performances in this very unique movie by Cameron Crowe.

I don't know about you guys (perhaps I have a very 'peronal' slant on what I like and dislike), but I rarely go by what the critics say. Much as I rarely take notice of others' thoughts on a film; each one to his own........;)

edit: I just thought of a 'reverse' example; my older son (who hopes to go into Media and electronics one day) thought Sin city to be a good film. Even thogh we had free passes, my wife and I left the theatre half an hour after it started. We were determined 'to give it a chance'; we regretted the waste of that half hour.

*cowers behind chair* it isn't the... the... dreaded romantic comedy is it? please tell me it isn't!

There really is very little of the "romance". I'm actually not sure how to define the movie. But I really did enjoy it.

Having spent quite a bit of time visiting relatives in the real Elizabethtown, KY, I'd like to see this movie.

It's a good movie. It's very unique. Though, if you can't stand southerners... more than half the characters may annoy you. :)

Feathers in Hair

World's Tallest Hobbit
If I remember correctly about what the press releases said, it's more of a 'true to life' romance, as opposed to the... er... romantisized kind of romance.

After listening to the "Lord of the Rings" commentaries, I have a tendancy to giggle whenever I see Orlando Bloom in something. I'm looking forward to seeing this!

Steel Magnolia
This movie premiered in my hometown of Franklin! I wasn't actually at the premier, but I saw lines and lines of teenagers on Main Street trying to get an autograph from Orlando Bloom. I would like to see this movie, it sounds great.

It looks like it may be an interesting movie, but I don't think I'd spend ten bucks on it. I may rent it when it comes out.
