In that verse Jesus is speaking of the Pharisees. Those who through their arrogance and self righteousness had forgotten God in their religion.

If it were Not for God going to 'bring to ruin those ruining Earth' as Revelation 11:18 B says, then yes humans could being devastation. Before such devastation can happen I think we are nearing a soon coming 'time of separation' on Earth as mentioned at Matthew 25:31-33,37 when Jesus will separate ruinous wicked people from upright ones.
The wicked will be gone forever Psalms 92:7. In other words, it will be ' lights out forever ' for the wicked according to Proverbs 24:20

I recall back the 60's it was said there were more people born under Aquarius who were highly intelligent (positive), and also a lot of people born under Aquarius were in mental institutions (negative).
Using that as a basis to judge it was concluded that the world was either destined for greatness or madness.

Why were Atomic Bombs not produced 100 years ago? They are produced for massive destruction at the End. The Bible has the clues if you are twice-born of holy spirit, common sense.
