Enlightenment

I see it as the one who attains enlightenment realizes it is a personal experience and only provides peace of mind. They realize they can't enlighten the world for a person can not be taught enlightenment but must find it from within.

I know, I know....You know what you know and your gnosis knows all that you know.
But I still know that you don't really know jack squat.
I ran into him on the beach and he told me that you really don't....
well you get it...........

The less that I am aware of knowing the more knowledge I have.
The more I am aware of not knowing, the greater capacity I have for enlightenment rather than the self delusion of thinking one knows.

No, no. The less aware of how aware I am of how little I'm not aware of what I don't know that I'm aware I know, the more I'm aware of how aware I am of being unaware of how unenlightened I know I'm not aware of.

Hey mud,

I've been very sick over the last 8 to 10 months, just beginning to recover. I always enjoy reading your replies, my friend.

To others that have responded, I am not ignoring you, I am very tired and weak and don't have the required energy to address. Thank everyone for their input.

best,
swampy

what if both knowing and not knowing are delusions?
Socrates claimed (with nudging from the muses) that he was the wisest because he knew that he knew nothing. He also tried to define everything and proclaimed that examples are not definitions. He was unsuccessful. (like Wittgenstein?) I think that he accepted the label "wisest" because he realized that words are ultimately indefinable, ineffable!
Also, I do not define enlightenment as bliss or altruism.* I define it as seeing reality for what it is. It is what it is! Words defer meaning. Enlightenment is the direct confrontation with reality without the intermediary of words or concepts.
Enlightenment is not blissful because reality is not blissful! It is as exciting as infinite space or an exploding volcano. I hate how profound insights have been sublimated Sublimate - Definition and More from the Free Merriam-Webster Dictionary under the slush called bliss. For example, the word sublime. Originally it meant shocking beauty. Now people say such things as "that chocolate was sublime." I enjoy saying, " I can see that it is beautiful ( tastes good) but terrifying?
“The roaring of lions, the howling of wolves, the raging of the stormy sea, and the destructive sword, are portions of eternity, too great for the eye of man.”
― William Blake
Wittgenstein's dying words were, " tell them my life was awesome." In other words his life was full of awe! Now "awesome' is a silly Valley girl - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia word!!
“He who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead; his eyes are closed.”
Albert Einstein
* I have nothing against altruism. As a matter of fact I think that a lack of ego is essential for profound insights. What i am saying is that it is a tool to reach insight and not the insight itself. There is a difference between purpose and meaning. The meaning of "dog" is a 4 legged mammal. However, the purpose of a dog does not = a 4 legged mammal, that barks etc...
PS; Ironically, when you google "philosophy" you get a corporation that specializes in cosmetics! I once dated a cosmetologist. She thought I was weird when I asked her, " how do you handle the weightlessness?" :D
