Evolutionists say some evidence of evolution is fake

Ahh see, once again my high school education comes out. You are correct, I was thinking that the Pu-244 4.04x10^7 would be worse because it has a longer half-life and keeps its radioactive traits longer. But it would be the decay to worry about.

I used to think the same thing too lol.

And certainly not the last! As we speak, we are training hundreds of moose, beaver, and bear in the arts of the laboratory.

What about baby seals? Do I sense segregation in Canada? I may have to move up there and start a seals civil rights movement.

PETA will worship me.

Hell no. We club those b*stards to death.

...In the interests of the economy, of course...

I love how nicely we've derailed this thread.

I cunningly manipulated your inferior Canadian mind (if we go by the proofs that Pure-Truth has posted, you Canadians are less evolved :p) into derailing this thread with me.

Just so we can prevent the OP from receiving anymore hate :(

Eat a mop, dirty Canadians.

(That actually came from my high school cheerleading team. We have this stupid song we sing, and it sounds like they're saying "Eat a Mop")

Dance for me Atheist!
Speaking of, where did Mickiel go?
And should we move this to the Random, not-so-meaningless announcements?

Hahaha! Perhaps, "Eat 'em up"? Or "Beat 'em up"? And that's probably best, lest I get modded twice within 24 hours lol.

ContentiusMaximus,
Thank you for your unsolicited counseling services: ("{Andy}There are ways to make a point other than sheer denigration".)

In light of six centuries of violent persecution, which included the burning of innocent men and women alive and countless unspeakable tortures inflicted upon much of the civilized world, all for the "crime" of simply not sharing the same beliefs dictated to them by the clergy in power, I like to exercise my well earned right to reciprocate, on occasion, with a harmless verbal jab. If this offends the delicate constitution of the religious reader, or you, I make no apology.

I would take this opportunity to now offer you some words of advice.
Be more attentive to what these religious folk are after, than how polite your discourse ranks.

Forty percent of Americans do not recognize that Evolution is a soundly entrenched fact. An ever growing number want to abolish Separation of Church and State. Advances in science and medicine are impeded relentlessly (stem cell research is only one example) and human rights are denied solely on the basis of scripture (gay rights, abortion, etc.) It is only in the last century that the Inquisition was abolished (although the Church, to this day, maintains it under another name).

You confuse arrogance for contempt.

Lets take a look at basic physics for a second. If you have 4 cups of magma, and you want to cool it to a solid state. Do you pour 4 more cups of magma of the same temperature into it? Not really, you've just doubled its mass.

And furthermore, I agree with most of this.

1. I never said you were not entitled to say what you please. It is a free country. I merely pointed out there are better ways to convince people of your side than merely insulting non-stop in a sneering tone.

2. I am not offended by it. But your actions as an atheist will affect the perceptions of how other theists view myself and other atheists. If you act like a douche, in other words, people are going to think all atheists are douches and it will be that much more difficult to reason with them.

I'm aware of the statistic and it is an alarming number. But you don't educate someone by insulting them. You educate them by leading them through the evidence and answering their questions.

Where I live, religious fervour is not that much of a problem. I share your contempt for those views. But I regard the people who hold them as misled, not necessarily (though possibly) morons. I regard them as indoctrinated, not necessarily (though possibly) void of critical thinking capacity.

But I do understand the difference between arrogance and contempt. Whereas contempt for these views are justified, arrogance, an air of superiority simply because you hold a particular view is not. I know many atheists who are just on the bandwagon because they think "religion sux hur hur hur". Are they not void of critical thinking as well? Are they not morons? And on the contrary, I've met plenty of theists with a sophisticated view of God. One that I obviously disagree with and make clear to them. But one that doesn't toe the Abrahamic megalomaniacal party line and perhaps may even be a constructive alternative (to them, at least).

Morse,
I fail to understand your magma analogy (if it was intended to be such).
Well, I'm off to bed, so you can resume your private chat with the walking fish with no more arrogant interruptions!

Fighting fire with fire makes a bigger fire!

Precisely. Especially the Young Earth Creationists in the US, who are constantly being fed BS by their preachers about atheists. They come into a discussion/debate with many fallacious preconceived notions. We're the servants of the Devil, and support Communism, we're hostile, and baby-killers, etc.

If you merely provoke them further by calling them morons, they're simply just going to tune out all you have to say. I know I would if someone was calling me every name in the book just because I didn't agree with them. Rather, if you're well-equipped with knowledge of evolution and cosmology, you can debunk the BS as they spout it and leave them defenceless.

I agree with you until this last part, and then probably only by degree. I don't think creationists are honest enough to even consider the sciences involved- it has nothing to do with science but everything to do with a preconceived worldview that must adhere to a literal interpretation of their Bible. No explanations of the processes involved matters much if it conflicts with their dogma. They have the ultimate defense in that science and the scientific method is inherently secular and thus cannot reflect the true nature of things since creationists require an interventionist God to tinker with the universe.

There's the rub. I generally work with the initial assumption they are reasonable people that have merely been given the wrong information. If they prove themselves to be stubborn and unwilling to change their minds in the face of evidence, why waste any more time with them? You aren't going to convince them nor are you going to erase the misconceptions. You might as well just try to find someone among their ranks that is the slightest bit reasonable. You definitely won't achieve it by insulting them repeatedly.

Oh yeah. Insults lead nowhere. Jerks. :D
That's the frustrating part; creationists can't all be dismissed as stupid. There are profound socio-cultural blinders they feel compelled to wear no matter what information they have and understand. Ronald L. Numbers book The Creationists gives a fascinating history of creationism and some insight into the origins and persistence of it at least in the U.S. From page 10:
"Rather than finding clerics arrayed in simple opposition to scientists, we discover conflicts of a different sort: psychological, as creationists struggled to reconcile the apparently conflicting claims of science and Scripture; and social, as they quarreled with one another over competing scientific and biblical interpretations or contested the boundaries of science and religion with evolutionists in courthouses, legislative halls, and school-board rooms."
I mention that book because I can see it from where I am and I'm tired and rambling.... yadda yadda yadda...

Nepenthe has it completely right.

In short, you can't reason with these people of faith. Even if they COULD reason, they don't WANT to. Hence, my frustration and ultimate contempt.

You are quite naive if you think you are engaging in a debate with them. Facts, knowledge, evidence, proof, logic, are all irrelevant in any "argument" with them. They will insist that the Earth is flat if being spherical threatens their dogma. They are not on this forum to consider other points of view or to be educated. They are here to profess their nonsense and gain acceptance.

I am here to extinguish their fire and brimstone which threatens to burn the neighborhood (i.e., ignite unsuspecting readers in this forum who may be on the fence with some issues and still salvageable).
