Extinct religions. A list.

EXTINCT RELIGIONS - The Schoyen Collection

Pretty cool.

While there might be some individuals who worship God's of the pantheon , I think extinct refers to a collective organized religion assessable by an established community in a formal setting.

I think all religions will go extinct at some point making me wonder what will take the place of a religion gone extinct.

I can only imagine what will be around in say, several thousand years from now.

I predict theistic religion will be the next in line for extinction giving way to religions that have a more down to earth approach based on natural events rather than supernatural.

A different religion.

There is no functional difference between 'theistic' religions and a 'secular' religions (or if you prefer, ideologies).

It's just people creating narratives to make sense of the world and justify their preferred courses of action. Some of these will drive good behaviour, others negative.

Things being 'natural' doesn't make them more likely to be benevolent. Nature isn't intrinsically tolerant, rational, altruistic, etc.

No doubt the God ideal will continue to morph, as it has in the past, but the great mystery that it represents to us will likely never be solved. And I would feel sorry for any humans that did manage to solve it. They wouldn't really be human, anymore, at that point.

I look at my fellow humans that think they have solved it and I pity them. Because they have to live in so much defensive dishonesty and delusion (atheists and theists, alike) just to maintain that pretense. Their fear of the 'mystery of being' is that overpowering. How sad for them. Whalen that mystery could have been a blessing to them.

I would argue that some of those religions are being 'reborn'. They are probably not exactly like the original form, but we have members of some of those religions on these forums, even.

Everything old is new again.

That's true. Sometimes a religion can 'evolve' enough that it dosent even look like the orginal.
