One might judge the official scientific opinion (if there is such) by this, and perhaps being as current as one can get as to even the existence of other intelligent life:

PS Perhaps I'm not too knowledgeable about the Drake Equation, but there doesn't seem to be a term for the propagation of life, whether through ejected material or general collisions or whatever - not that this has been confirmed to happen anyway. But wouldn't this affect the situation?

I think even the US government is warming to the possibility that UFOs (UAPs) the military are witnessing may be ET.
