Is religion a stumbling block to the realization of God because it places the importance of itself between and above the realization of God?

faith in god should lead to the realization of knowing god and religion isn't it?

holding on to religion results in faith in religion and not knowing god?

I think some people crave an authority figure to tell them that everything is alright, there are answers for all the hard questions, and that they just need to live a certain way to be assured of comfort and conformity. Based on their personality type, this is what they want more than a "relationship" with an immaterial being.

This is reflected in population-based psychological studies, where about a third of people prefer authoritarian hierarchies based on punishment and obedience, about a third of people prefer nurturing social structures based on diversity and acceptance, and the final third of people are somewhere in between.

There are other studies that show that the immaterial being does have to be a being. It can be a concept or more, that is turned universal. You find that a lot in philosophy and in some versions of science.

I think only if one allows it to be. Faith and religion are not the same, one is from God the other man- made response.

Then you have the wrong religion.
religion
rĭ-lĭj′ən
noun
  1. The belief in and reverence for a supernatural power or powers, regarded as creating and governing the universe.
That's the study of God, not the study of rituals.

religion is nothing more than a consistent practice. everything else is variable. whether or not its a stumbling block depends on the particulars and priorities of the specific religion. some are probably stumbling blocks, some probably aren't.

faith skips over knowledge in favor of understanding and wisdom. then one can return to knowledge using what they learned from faith.

as I said above, it really depends on the religion. however, in an ideal religion where knowing God is a virtue, the consistent practice makes one's entire lifestyle a vessel for holiness. This increases the frequency and intensity of divine encounters in one's life, which in turn increases the opportunity to know God.

The short answer is 'yes'. Very often religious institutions try very persistently to make themselves the "stand in" for God in the lives and minds of their adherents. It is nothing short of idolatry. And the same is true of the trappings of religion, like their holy books.

i understand that.

having faith in god is not the same thing as having faith in religion. if one has faith in religion, then there is no faith in god
