Wow, today Saturday a world class golf resort opened up in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), another reason I want to plan my Dubai vacation to the UAE for New Years fireworks 2018. Besides Emirates Airlines being the premier way to fly today, and there is also Etihad Airways UAE, the destination of choice for fine hotels for relaxation is UAE and in partifular Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

So one more reason to visit Dubai in particular for golf fans is the brand new (opened today!) Trump International Golf Club, Dubai Akoya, Al Hebiah Third District in Dubai.

Fireworks is one of the reasons I will be in Dubai on New Years 2018, here they go off today in Dubai celebrating the new golf resort:

It is an inspiration to me to watch what Sheikh Mohammed's visionary leadership has been for the UAE, UAE Vice-President, Prime Minister and Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum is a great role model that inspires my own dreams and really admire him.

Also, as an enthusiast of investing, I find Damac Chairman Hussain Sajwani a truly amazing example of success. I just love this guy:

Hussain Sajwani is married and he has four children. He wants his children to receive good education and good morals, and he received his undergraduate degree in Economics from the University of Washington.

I also admire Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum:

His Highness said: "The Arab World needs to invest in education, knowledge and innovation ... My brother Abdullah Al Ghurair sponsored 15,000 Arab university student. I salute him for his brave initiative”. His Highness the Ruler of Dubai is keen on the world of finance, investing, innovation, real estate and infrastructure development. Dubai is really becoming - no not becoming but is - the place to be a part of a new international hub of family resorts and family relaxation, business, and a travel destination. This new gold resort makes the UAE even more exciting for those who are sick of Hollywood and the ilk of Madonna, sick of drunken fools and druggies, who would rather have a luxury destination to relax.

And a great destination for golf and golfing fans!

I can't wait to book my vacation ticket to Dubai.

I heard the Obamas bought a house there.
I would stay out of the place.
If Obama is living there, there is certain to be a natural disaster or something that will wipe the place off the map.

I was there some 25 years ago, visiting friends who worked in the oil business. It felt like a small town then, not much there, but the people were very nice, friendly, hotels were very nice and clean.

And you felt perfectly safe, people there have better things to do than cause trouble, this is what the rest of the ME needs, economic investment and growth- but they have to cast of socialism first and foremost, that's the common thread in every failed state in the ME and around the world.

They will even have a colony on Mars soon. But petrol does not last for ever and they are not swimming on it like Saudis have realized. But they do have many good things up their sleeve. So far, so good. :)

Nice.
But a nice refugee camp would perhaps be more useful.
So many refugees from Syria - and the rich Arabian countries do not much to help.

Dubai was developed using "socialism", if you associate high government spending and involvement in the economy, and a solid welfare state with socialism at least. It's really a hybrid economy with free market combined with central planning and massive government spending.

They also pretty much went bankrupt during the GFC and had to be bailed out by Abu Dhabi. The Burj Khalifa was supposed to be called the Burj Dubai but they had to name it after Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan of Abu Dhabi as thanks for saving their country from financial collapse.

I take your point, every country is a hybrid of some kind- the US having some of the highest corporate tax rates in the world (soon to change hopefully!)

but UAE has little to no income or business tax and is very friendly to business investment/ capitalism in general, low regulation- all of which translates into the same people who built the Sears Tower in Chicago- building the new world's tallest in Dubai instead

Where as many failed states, Iraq, Syria, etc were explicitly socialist (baathist) where the state tried to run everything
