Favorite actor of all time?

This is a spinoff of my Favorite Entertainer thread. If you forget all the singing, dancing, comedy, and all that other stuff...

Who is your favorite actor of all time?

It comes close for me. My favorite genre of movies is Classic Horror. I would probably choose Vincent Price, but I won't. Vince was good, and he had such a great voice for the parts he played. However, my vote for best actor goes to Bela Lugosi. He was just perfect for the parts he played. Unfortunately, he was often put in "B movies" in which he was better than the rest of the flick. He did gain popularity for Dracula though. For fans of Classic Horror, I challenge you to pick up one of those inexpensive packs with a pile of his movies and kill a Saturday night watching them. Watch not just the movie, but him as well. You will see a man who's heart is in the part, and who is doing an exceptional job. :)

It's impossible to narrow it down to one actor (I'm assuming actors, not actresses), but I'd say the following are probably the all-around, most-talented actors I can think of off the top of my head:

Robert Downey Jr.
Russell Crowe
Daniel Day Lewis
Tom Hanks
Denzel Washington
Johnny Depp
Leonardo DiCaprio

Well okay, I do apologize. I should have said favorite Actor or Actress. I didn't mean to be a bigot. :( It's like calling the Letter Carrier a Mailman though. You don't really mean anything by it.

Couldn't pick just one either but here's a few:

Anthony Hopkins
Johnny Depp
Jimmy Stewart
Gregory Peck
Sean Penn

I will help you narrow it down. Your local theater is showing a "One night only" flick by each of the Actors or Actresses that you have listed. This flick will be seen tonight at 8PM and once it is run, it will be destroyed forever. All actors will have their flick played simultaneously on different screens. Pick one! No theater hopping! Now which one do you go see?

It depends on the director, writer, and subject of each of the movies.

I can't decide on just one, but here are a few:
Ian McKellen
Patrick Stuart
Bruce Willis
Samuel L. Jackson
George Clooney

I think a line is going to form behind me but it is Johnny Depp, amazing performances in some films and just should given others a miss POTC for example, also partial to Brian Blessed , that man has joie de vivre, and he knows how to fill a stage.

That's a damn good list. I'm going to have to steal it.

Done here.
I feel like I should say Clark Gable and Bette Davis, but the truth is more like Rod Steiger and Meryl Streep. They're both (or he was and she is) remarkably versatile.

Kathryn

It was on fire when I laid down on it.
Oh yeah...Rod Steiger! Oh, and Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn. And Joan Crawford.

Ahhhhh...
