Eyes Wide Shut is one of the most misunderstood movies of all time. It goes to the fact that Beethoven only wrote one opera, Fidelio, which was the ironic password to the orgy mansion. Fidelity is what it's really about--starring a man who is very noticeably shallow and unfaithful, most noticably to his wife at the time, Nicole Kidman. And yeah, Cruise has settled into moneymaking as his primary motivation, but he does have exceptional talent as demonstrated in this movie, and in Risky Business, A Few Good Men, Collateral, Edge of Tomorrow (one of the best blockbusters in a while) and best of all, Magnolia.
A couple people mentioned A.I. He worked on the concept for 20 years but then passed it off to Spielberg, but died before the filming. It was produced in part by Kubrick's production company, and he was given honorary mention at the start and end of the film.
Does anybody else think Kubrick's death was a little coincidental, coming as it did just after he finished EWS.
