FDA imprisons Amish farmer

And another petty bureaucrat puffs out their chest vice handling the issue in a sane manner. Guess it's time to clean house in the FDA along with the EPA and a few other power hungry agencies.

He was warned by the FDA that he was breaking the law before and he didn't stop. He was found guilty by a jury of his peers. So what is the problem?

Hmm. Good, I say. Our nation has regulatory laws for public health regarding those things, and the Amish are not a separate country within a country, much as they may like to think so. If they're selling that to fellow American citizens, it needs to be properly regulated and ensured for safety. Of which it clearly was not.

Wow! What a criminal! He produces a salve from natural ingredients to treat skin cancers.....and it appears to work for quite a few people. This is the kind of legal action that makes me wonder why the real criminals are walking around scot-free and the ones whose crime wouldn't hurt a fly get arrested? What a crazy world!

You might want to try reading a bit more. Maybe from a source that is not trying to play up the poor victim angle.

Look at these dangerous ingredients in "Original Chickweed"......Rosemary, Beeswax, Olive Oil, Peppermint, Chickweed, Eucalyptus, Lavender and Comphrey.

Scary.

This is taken from the FDA's website......

"FDA requested the seizure, the complaint says, because the products claim to treat or cure diseases but have not received FDA approval, and are not exempt from such approval requirements. Moreover, the complaint says, the seized products contain ingredients that could cause toxic or allergic reactions in consumers sensitive to these ingredients. According to the federal complaint, Chickweed Healing Salve contains comfrey, which may increase the risk of systemic toxicity, and To-More-Gone contains bloodroot, a caustic, corrosive substance that produces a thick scar that can mask tumor recurrence. In addition, the seized products are “misbranded” under the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act.

“Two important protections for the public are that a firm may not sell new drugs unless they have been tested and approved by FDA and a firm may not make false or unsubstantiated claims about drugs they sell,” said Dara A. Corrigan, associate commissioner for regulatory affairs. “When a firm disregards these protections, it not only violates the law but also creates a risk for consumers, who may rely on a bogus product and forego effective and proven treatment. FDA must and will take aggressive enforcement action.

According to the federal complaint, Notions-n-Things Distribution was inspected by the FDA on Jan. 25, 2012, in response to a consumer complaint regarding the product Chickweed Healing Salve and claims in pamphlets that stated the product helps treat skin cancer. A previous complainant used the product on skin cancer on her leg, the complaint says, and the product reportedly made her condition worse, requiring medical treatment."

In other words, anything that might cure an ailment can't be sold without "approval" because the vested interests of pharmaceutical companies might be compromised. It isn't because the product can cause harm to certain people....how many people have harmful side effects from "approved" drugs? How many people die each year from prescription medications?

Do these ingredients burn the skin? Doesn't radiation therapy? Does chemotherapy often take cancer patients to the brink of death? Obviously they do, and many actually die from the treatment itself.....but these are fully "approved".

You don't seem to realize what a dangerous thing modern medicine is. Prescription drugs are the 4th leading cause of death in the world.

Here are the top 7 commonly prescribed drugs.....

  • 1) Prednisone or Cortisone.....side effects?
    • High blood sugar, which can trigger or worsen diabetes
    • Increased risk of infections
    • Thinning bones (osteoporosis) and fractures
    • Suppressed adrenal gland hormone production
    • Thin skin, easy bruising and slower wound healing
  • 2) Methotrexate & Other Chemotherapeutic Agents.....side effects?
    • Cause fetal death and congenital anomalies.
    • Liver and Kidney toxicity.
    • Bone marrow depression.
    • Lung disease which can be fatal.
    • Reacts with NSAID’s which can be fatal.
    • May cause intestinal bleeding and ulceration.
    • Depresses the immune system.
  • 3) Coumadin or Warfarin.....side effects?
    • Haemorrhage (bleeding)
  • 4) Cholesterol Lowering Drugs.....side effects?
    • Myositis – inflammation of the muscles.
    • Rhabdomyolysis (rare)With this condition, muscles all over the body become painful and weak. The severely damaged muscles release proteins into the blood that collect in the kidneys. The kidneys can become damaged trying to eliminate a large amount of muscle breakdown caused by statin use. This can ultimately lead to kidney failure.
  • 5) Prozac (anti-depressants).....side effects? The FDA has admitted that antidepressants can worsen depression and suicidal symptoms in some patients. There is a long list of other side effects.

  • 6) Ritalin, Cylert, Dexadrine, Adderal.....the risk?
    • Abdominal pain
    • Alopecia (loss of hair)
    • Angina (chest pain)
    • Appetite loss
    • Anxiety/Nervousness
    • Blood pressure and pulse changes (both up and down)
    • Cardiac arrhythmia
    • Depression
    • Diaphoresis (sweating)
    • Dizziness
    • Hypersensitivity
    • Psychosis and psychiatric disorders
    • Stunted growth
    • Suicidal ideation
    • Tachycardia
  • 7) Beta Blockers and Calcium Channel Blockers.....the risk?
Calcium channel blockersIn an ongoing study, Bruce Psaty, M.D., compared 291 patients taking calcium channel blockers for hypertension to 1,240 people with the same condition, but taking other drugs. He found that patients who were taking large amounts of calcium channel blockers for high blood pressure had a 60% higher death rate compared to patients taking diuretics or beta blockers.

    • shortness of breath
    • cold extremities
    • palpitations
    • congestive heart failure.
Now these are the "approved" drugs......makes the stuff sold by Mr Girod look like jelly beans.

Yes, let's ignore the use of bloodroot without a warning label, selling fake medicine to people sick with cancer, refusing proper inspections and what was the other thing oh ya threatening a witness.

And let's pretend big pharmaceutical is so threatened by his competition the sent the FDA after him. Because that makes complete rational sense and is not stupid at all.

Are some of the people who replied here serious that he should be in jail? Are you serious?

Because the label was not exactly the way the FDA wanted, even though it was changed later, they think they had the right to take this guy away from his family and put him in jail for that.

I honestly pity the people who think he should be in jail for this for technically breaking the law

Because the FDA has never broken the law, right? Never overstepped their bounds?

Really bothers me to hear replies like from The Ragin Pagan

Seriously? Did you just seriously say that?

The FDA is beyond corrupt. Their existence has never been necessary and they have this idea that only the FDA can cure you and nothing else can. Even though there's a lot of "FDA approved" stuff that has done more harm to the body and natural stuff has helped way more.

Let me ask you. After all what's happened and what he's done, is it worth it to take this guy away from his business and family and throw him behind BARS over something like THIS?

I swear, some people here are starting to slowly lost their minds.

How threatening was he really? I have not seen it quoted. How threatening can an Armish man get one wonders?

Obviously very dangerous stuff.

If you say so....:D You seem to have no idea what lengths these people will go to, to shut down any opposition, especially when it comes to their major cash cow.....cancer. Cures for cancer have been around for hundreds of years......but none of them can be employed by a certified medical practitioner because he is not allowed to recommend them even if he thinks they are the better option. He will lose his license to practice medicine if he recommends anything not approved by the FDA. His only options are chemotherapy, radiation or surgery....each one of them is known to make a sick patient's cancer, worse. There is a reason why those who undergo chemotherapy have a stronger chance of the cancer returning. The chemo sets them up for a more devastating return. Radiation actually causes cancer, and surgery can often release cancer cells into the bloodstream where it can metastasize.

Natural therapies do not make patients sicker even if they don't cure them. Chemo very seldom cures anyone. Their last months of life are spent hairless and with their head in a bucket heaving their heart out. Doctors must cringe when they diagnose their patients, knowing what the only treatments they can recommend will do to them.

No one wins but big pharma.

Um, yeah they ARE threatened. How can you have a monopoly if you have people making their own stuff that does a better job curing people than you and is cheaper?

You can't make money off of patients who are cured can you. Big Pharma has done that for years. Shoveling out crap with harmful side effects that they know full well will not cure patients. A cured patient doesn't bring in the money. Like with the doctors who still do chemotherapy when their are cancer treatments that way better. I guess we should also ignore the fact that this guy was taken from his lively hood, his family and thrown behind bars, with criminals worse than him over something like THIS.

Do you have the slightest idea of what the FDA has done and what they have "Approved" Many stuff they have approved has not only not cured the problem but also made things worse. They are beyond corrupt, wanting to stomp on anyone that does not have medicine that is approved by THEM. They are well known for overstepping their bounds.

There is so much corruption here, and they have people EVERYWHERE.

There seems to be a lack of common sense going on here.
The FDA, and their equivalent in other countries, certainly do have problems with the criminal fraternity cooking up make believe drugs and selling them to the gullible.
In this case The farmer also lacked common sense, in not clearing with the authorities what he could, or cold not, make and sell. and how it should be described an labeled.
The fact that he was Amish is not relevant.
There are many perfectly fine herbal remedies sold through out the world, and provided they are labeled correctly, and contain no prohibited substances, no one cares.
In the past, some of these remedies have been found to be highly effective and have become the basis of modern medicines.

Perhaps his Chickweed mix was too effective, and had ruffled some Manufacturer's feathers, who in turn had complained to the FDA out of jealousy.

The FDA is a bureaucracy that has the "we know better" attitude. Yes I agree that we do need an agency that protects us. However they, for simpler terms, "let it go to their head". Take the example of a drug that is in the testing stage but has not been approved as of yet by the FDA. A person that has been clinically determined to be in the terminal stage of an illness can possibly be helped by this drug. However, the FDA will not allow it to be given because they haven't approved it. What right does the FDA have to say to a dying person "it might help, but it could be dangerous". In some cases the drug is being used in foreign countries and has been shown to be effective.
