Female journalist told she needs male chaperone to cover Republican's campaign.

Curious George

As much of a feminist as I am, we do live in a world where men have to be more careful than women with respect to charges of impropriety.
That said, i don't think this was a case where there is an actual threat. Ultimately, it is not my place to say whether the official felt there was a threat or not so I will leave it alone without more. I do wonder if this is an instance of real worry or trying to stir things up for the sake of controversy.

It's just another political stunt. He knows the liberal-hating, feminist-hating, media-hating ignoramuses in his state will see this as a thumb in the eye of the me-too crowd, and will love him for it. He could protect himself from scandal very easily without humiliating or inconveniencing the female reporter. But doing that was the whole point, cause the ignoramuses that he wants to vote for him love that sort of thing.

If he needs a chaperone to protect his “virtue” he should arrange it. It shouldn’t be difficult for him to insure there is someone else with him when he is with reporters. He could do that easily and without making a big announcement about it. Putting the onus on this reporter just because she is female seems backwards to me. Like he is trying to score points at her expense and make her job more difficult.

Exactly right.

Even if we give him the benefit of the doubt and assume this is entirely about not wanting it to look like an affair, there's a much simpler solution...

He could have brought his wife with him.

With all the dirty tricks , lies, and stunts the Socialists want to do with Republicans I don't blame him a one single bit.

A lot of females have already proven to be opportunists around people of note.
And a lot of posters on this board have already proven themselves to be misogynists.

You could be right. I was reading a follow-up piece on this, and it appears his campaign might have gotten a boost from this: https://mississippitoday.org/2019/0...er-his-campaign-freezing-out-female-reporter/

Several public and internal Republican campaign polls show Foster with support in the single digits, trailing Reeves and Waller. However, strategists close to Reeves and Waller, as well as political observers around the state, have questioned whether any candidate can reach the 50 percent threshold to avoid an August 27 runoff.

After the story broke on Wednesday evening, several GOP campaign operatives scrambled to make sense of how the moment could affect the outcome of the election.

With even a small bump from the controversy, Foster could cement that runoff and draw national media attention to what would be the first runoff in a Republican governor’s race since 1991 — and possibly a contentious one.

One Facebook commenter from DeSoto County wrote on Foster’s page: “To be honest, it persuaded me to vote FOR you! I had heard many positive comments about you and was looking at other candidates as well but after seeing this article and your position I decided that I wanted a man of this integrity in office.”

A man from Hattiesburg wrote: “You for sure have our vote now!! You will not have to answer to the liberal left on judgment day but this is one thing that you will not have to answer to God for on that day.”

A woman from McLaurin wrote: “I think you won over quite a few voters just for your stance. I am a teacher and we are all watching every candidate closely (which I’m sure you already know). This has absolutely nothing to do with education but you definitely won my vote over it!”

He better not travel alone with a male either because he could be accused of being gay. Maybe he should just travel with a dog. Oh wait, being alone with a dog is problematical as well.
