Ferguson!

I don't understand why. I have no affection for soldiers, and so don't care what they think of how I describe them. If they've killed, I would also refer to them as "the killer" and the deceased as "the victim " when discussing the killing. It's just accurate.

Oh well if that's the way you like to use your words, then that's fine.

Yeah, I want to see the police report. It's kind of suspicious that they haven't released it yet. Must be great to hear the public narrative and see an autopsy from three different doctors and gather all the evidence about the case so they have maximum amount of time to craft the perfect explanation. They should have released on day one.

Maybe they are tidying it up.

I love how everyone in this thread is an expert speculator and political pundit. We might as well have Noam Chomsky and Rush Limbaugh join in while we're at it :)

In situations like this one, the full truth is likely to come out in bits and pieces and over considerable time. Most of us are likely to have our minds made up long before that, however.

Hey! Be fair to those of us who have pleaded ignorance on this topic.
I'd love to weigh in on a side, but as we saw in similar cases, initial
news is incomplete & sometimes even wrong. The dust will settle.

Is Chomsky prone to jumping the gun too? I never noticed it.

I think no, but his stance on this would nevertheless be quite predictable. Philosophical opposition to police shooting unarmed people in the street is not necessarily contingent on the specific details of any given incident.

Amnesty International has been here observing.

Amnesty International has come to Ferguson - The Washington Post

Last week was a rough week. When the tanks left, people could breathe. But now night after night after curfew was instituted, we've seen guns drawn and pointed at citizens again by police marching forward. 31 people were arrested. They've been released this morning.

Mainstream media keeps being pushed back.

I'm grateful for social media. Keeps people connected who are close to the events.

Last night was horrible. No sleep. Outside groups who are welcomed are those who can provide training or support for non-violent response actions, as well as training or support as street medics.

I'm shaken. I wish bacon or whiskey or a good lay would make me feel better. I even wish a hug would make me feel better. I don't know what would. I just wake up, love my family, run a business, and then do what I can when the day is done and the night starts all over again.

Are you there? On twitter someone said national guard was going door to door searching homes because the police claim to have been shot at, have you heard anything about that, I couldn't find a more legitimate source than twitter?

Breaking news.....
BREAKING REPORT: Officer Darren Wilson Suffered “Orbital Blowout Fracture to Eye Socket” During Mike Brown Attack | The Gateway Pundit

I wonder about the source though.
I found many sources for it, but none were major media.

I saw that too, and had the same concerns about it. Also, if Wilson was actually punched in the face, that doesn't necessarily mean it was Brown who delivered the blow. Brown's autopsy revealed no sign of a scuffle, and one would expect that breaking somebody's eye socket would leave some kind of a mark on your fist.

Also, there's this: "Hoft is known as the Dumbest Man on the Internet, and for good reason. As Media Matters summed it up: "Hoft runs with (or spawns) almost every inane story that bubbles up in the conservative blogosphere, has proven that he has absolutely no vetting process for the sources he cites, and apparently has a hard time with basic reading comprehension."

In fact, a couple days before AIM announced the award, Hoft uncritically repeated a claim from a survivalist blog under the headline "Obama DHS Purchases 2,700 Light-Armored Tanks to Go With Their 1.6 Billion Bullet Stockpile." As Little Green Footballs' Charles Johnson pointed out, they aren't tanks and they aren't being bought by the DHS (they're for the Marine Corps)."

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver: Ferguson, MO and Police Militarization

I love John Oliver. While I don't have an opinion on the actual incident (except the death being tragic), I do agree that the police have handled it horribly.

Oh wow...that is freaky.
Not so easy to get John Oliver over here, but I'm a fan, so I just watched that segment on Youtube whilst eating my lunch. Was seriously considering posting it here, but jump on and find it's already been done!

Very thought provoking. You'd hope this incident could lead to some sanity around some of the larger issues (eg. police militarization, freedom of access for journalists, etc)

Regrettable events have exposed what seems validation on some folks parts, and regrets amongst most others.

Deliberately provoking authorities to respond in any rational fashion to otherwise fair and appropriate means, is tantamount to some need to achieve martyrdom.
"Protests" will often enough call upon anarchists and "others" to incite and even instigate actual violence to make some empty case that utterly avoids the basic "case" at hand.

Hate to cite some trite reference from cinema...but as Alfred says in the recent Batman flick..."some men just want to see the world burn".

Such folks offer no aid, no compassion, nor any solutions. They just set fires, and watch what the rest of us do about it.

*sigh*

Ignore the protesters for a second, then.
What do you think about access for the press?
What do you think about the militarization of the police force?

Who knows, this young man could have had a family that is influenced by him, in other words, more problems for society ?.

Yeah, why don't we just get the cops to kill ALL the black male teenagers who jaywalk or shoplift, cuz maybe that will create fewer problems than letting them go about their business and talk to other people.

Listen sister, who said anything about black, don't put words in my mouth, I don't care if he was black, white or pink.

But nevertheless you think it's probably a good thing he was gunned down in a city street by a cop, apparently for jaywalking.
