Fiction as symbols

Can't brain. Has dumb.
I love books. Nowadays I'm rarely not reading. I particularly like fantast novels, and I recently read a trilogy that got me thinking. Soldier Son, by Robin Hobb. Anyone else I talk to tells me, if they've read it of course, that it's their least favourite of her books. I, on the other hand, love it, and I think it's her best trilogy. I feel like the whole series is a description of a journey into self, almost perfect in the images it creates and uses as symbols right the way through.

So, I've written up this as a thread starter to remind me to write a bit more in detail (could get quite long...), but perhaps someone happens to have something along similar lines in the meantime? Doesn't have to be series, or even novels. Short stories are welcome. And I suppose poetry is allowed in as well. Hell, anything written and not true.

I recommend this series to all of you too, by the way. (I'm not sure I can describe a whole lot without spoilers :p)
