Debate, discussion, are fine. You pose a very good question, and clearly Jesus in the Gospels prayed to his father in heaven and told other stories do the same, and in that context he did not think he was God, but I think this quote from him is about pointing the finger at ourself, and dealing with that, before pointing the finger at someone else, which seems to be the far more popular style .

Pointing is impolite, whether you doing it to others or oneself.

To me the simple message is that pointing a finger at someone because of their weaknesses in a superior manner is utterly hypocritical. We should work on our own shortcomings.
