Today I was the British consulate in Tel Aviv picking up my approved Visa, or more precisely my marriage visa.
On December 6th I'll be on my flight to Heathrow. this week has been and is a week in which my friends meet me for congrats and farewells. on Tuesday I've dined with good friends from the archaeology department, tonight I am meeting my friends from my original team in the Israeli army, guys who served with me in the Gaza strip, the West Bank, East Jerusalem and during the second Palestinian uprising and with most of whom I've still served in reserves duties for the last 10 years, out of this fine band I am the last to get married. on the weekend I'm having a 'bechlores party' with another circle of close friends, some of whom I've known since childhood of them I am the last to get married as well, their wives, who are my good friends as well are going to join us in the weekend.
My soon to be wife, Gaelle and I, still talk about going back to Israel sooner or later. but we will start in London, where Gaelle has been living and working in the last years.
So from next week, I will be logging on RF from a British server!

Thank you too Madhuri! I try not to look at it as a new world, but as about 4.5 hours flight from Israel in order to keep things in proportions :D

Fish? Chips? Cup O tea? -- More likely curry and a can of Tetley's, these days.

Sounds like a great new adventure, Caladan.
Do bring a jumper, though....

Congratulations! I wish you a safe flight and hopefully many happy days ahead.

If only you'd left a few weeks earlier, though — the weather's crazy there. Then again, it is better than drought.

Make sure to upload pictures of the wedding! :D

Mabrouk mabrouk!

Thanks croak!
I'm now comfortably sitting at the desk in our apartment after the morning coffee and a news digest.
the flight turned out very well! at first I thought 'oh, they set me between these two old ladies', but then the lady on my right turned out to be very interesting and cool, and used to deal with things right up my alley, she taught Islamic art and literature, and used to speak Persian fluently, we talked about her visit to Iran before the Islamic revolution, about archaeology, our visits to mid eastern countries, and just current news in general, I also got loads of best wishes for my wedding :D

yes, the weather is tough, me and Gaelle went shopping for warm clothes on my first day here.

Make sure to upload pictures of the wedding! :D

Awesome. Reminds me of a time when I talked to a nice old lady on my flight. Vaguely. Sometimes you're lucky. =D

That's good. And it seems like it started raining here once you'd left or around then. :D There should be more on the way in the coming days. No more drought!

Any special plans for the wedding? :D

It was on fire when I laid down on it.
Dan and Gaelle, CONGRATULATIONS! What an exciting time in your lives!

Dan, here's a book I heartily recommend now that you're going to be a Londoner. As an archeologist and historian, I think you will find it a fascinating guidebook to many lesser known spots of interest in that fascinating city:

Amazon.com: London : The Biography (9780099422587): Peter Ackroyd: Books

You never know - maybe my husband and I can join you for a cup o tea when we come through London this upcoming summer!

Keep the pictures coming! WE WANT WEDDING PICS!
