For all democracies: calling someone 'evil'

I was surprised to find this ad shocking and a step beyond the lying, gaslighting, fear generating and ranting.

So I started wondering if calling someone on the other side 'evil' is done elsewhere or would it be shocking if you saw a commercial using that as the theme? Or would you just shrug no matter what someone called someone on the other side?

I'll express the hope (I know I know) that we can focus on that rather than debate who is evil because to me once that word is used the phrase that they have to be defeated "by any means necessary" comes directly to mind and we know where that can lead.

The ad goes beyond calling someone "evil". The ad makes a fact-based case for calling someone evil. Whether you agree with it's reasoning or not, the ad is not just tossing out a word, but at least attempting to make a solid case for why it is the right word to use.

But watch now, the Republicans will fire back using the same word "evil", but supported only by their trademark "alternate facts".

Beyond that, I'm not sure publicly calling Mr. Kushner evil is a wise idea even if it is true that his actions can be fairly characterized as such. That language, however accurate, further promotes and deepens the tragic divisions in our society. As Martin Luther King, jr observed, you cannot overcome hatred with hatred.

Please don't take this wrong, but that is entirely on you.

Giving so much credit to `evil` !

The old man is rolling in his grave !

They are a family with no morality and a lot of debt !

One doubts the `debt` thing ?

Look to your scriptures, Jesus said it well.....

Find it

I mean I agree. I think that politics today is just "look how bad the other person is!". Trump used that to his advantage and is really really good at it. Trump has called tons of people evil. So I don't understand why you would point at democrats specifically.

Lincoln Project are anti-trump Republicans so it's not Democrats.

You're right that this is the response to what trump and his minions are doing but I don't remember them using the word 'evil'. But in any event going to their level the odds of violence goes way up. I'd rather those opposed to the current regime in power and advocating for the needed regime change avoided going to the depths the current swamp has gone.

I don't know. In my personal opinion Evil is a meaningless descriptor word. Its not one I WOULDN'T use for this current regime but I would have at least 2 other presidents that were pretty ****ing evil.

For me, the one word I was refraining from using for the current regime in power was 'evil' so it was shocking to hear it actually used. Maybe it's more about my emotional state.

Maybe. There is always a mix of actual feelings and propaganda. Always. I think there are several people who are justified in having strong negative emotions for the things this president has done. But at the same time if someone is spending millions on advertisements of a political nature they are attempting to harvest on those feelings. Always be skeptical of things people pay to say to you.
