For Trump, size clearly matters; reality, not so much

Those supporting Trump's delusions now are the same people who were screaming about Joe Biden's dementia at the time he withdrew on July 21. Polls were showing Trump with a growing lead over Biden, and Democrats had been calling for him to step down because of his debate performance.

Now the polls are showing Kamala Harris with a slight, but growing, lead over Trump. Trump is spouting pure nonsense about crowd sizes, and it looks like the AI nonsense is something he sincerely believes. In his mind, that would explain what happened rather than accept that a black woman could be generating that much enthusiasm. He is also doubling down on his false memory of a near helicopter crash with Harris's old boyfriend, Willie Brown, even after it has been proven that it never happened. Trump claims he has proof to back up his delusion.

Where are the calls for Trump to step down? Democrats were able to convince Biden to withdraw voluntarily, after they showed him proof that he was losing the race. We now have the same kind of dilemma concerning the candidate on the Republican side--a candidate whose performance is obviously on a track to lose and drag downballot Republicans along with him.

There is no attempt by Republicans to remove a candidate suffering from obvious delusions. Unlike with Biden, Republicans know that they can't talk Trump down from his perch. It isn't just Trump being delusional. It is the people around him and his devoted followers. They can't admit any reality other than the one spun for them by a delusional old man.
Thing is, Trump knows if he throws enough idiocy out there at least some of it will stick to those receptive to it.

You took a highly pixelated picture that's zoomed in all the way on a digital camera and are surprised that the picture quality is bad? Reminds me of the people looking at a zoomed in grainy picture of flying saucers or Bigfoot as proof of their existence
9/11 conspiracy nuts also love blurry pictures.
"The image's origins are unknown. In other words, we were unable to identify who first posted the image online. Without that source, there's no evidence to determine whether the photo is genuine, the product of digital software, or a combination of the two (an authentic photo with some editing to change brightness or add a filter, for instance)." ~ Snopes

Because Snopes doesn't know what reflections are.

Can't see I've seen many planes with a reflective surface. Can't say I've ever seen a surface painted white and blue that actually counts as reflective.

You don't see that there are two sets of hands from two different people? The guy in the front is pointing up and there's someone behind him that's holding the sign. It's obvious
That's what I saw, also, but I'll admit, many would see it as an AI indicator.

That's true, but there is a genuine question about whether Donald Trump actually believes his own lies. IMO, Donald Trump's niece, psychologist Mary L Trump, does a great job of explaining how he can knowingly lie and then actually come to believe his own lies. I've seen her and other psychologists talk about this phenomenon before. Here is a 6-minute interview clip with Mary Trump. After the first few minutes they talk about the relationship between Trump and religious evangelicals. It is worth a listen.

How about something that isn't made to look pretty.

Could be. Personally I’ve got the impression that for Trump words are things to bludgeon people with, or to provoke a response, and questions about whether he’s talking about real things or not just don’t come into it.

Bit like Putin, although in Putin’s case it’s more of an internalised mythology. And Putin is more convincing and less random. But they both understand the usefulness of blatant lying.

Do you? There was a live shot of that too with a moving camera. That is much more difficult to reproduce, and let's not forget all of the people that were there. You have the word of one person that claims to work at the airport. And pictures that were analyzed and said not to be AI.

Actually it's not because family is not supposed to diagnose family. You can explain Trump quit easily and entirely without the unethical armchair shrinking.

Which would be obvious to anyone who’s ever been to an airport.
Yeah. It reminds me of a story from rural Ireland, when some idiot killed his wife thinking she had been replaced by fairies. Everyone told him it's not real, told him to wisen up, but he had to have the old superstitions anyways. They did that, and unwilling to let things be he nitpicked his wife's behavior looking for an excuse to kill the fairy.

It would be unethical, if Mary Trump were just using her credentials to claim an actual diagnosis. She is a bona fide psychologist, but she grew up in very close proximity to Donald Trump. She bears a grudge against him, because he managed her inheritance, which basically disappeared while he was watching it. So one needs to bear that bias in mind. However, she is an invaluable source of Trumplore, and she also does know something about pathological behavior and the Trump family. YMMV. You don't have to believe her or watch the video, if you don't want to, but I do think that Mary Trump does a good job of explaining why Donald Trump is able to convince people to believe his lies. It has something to do with him also believing his lies.

No, because I don't have a dog in this race. They are all pathological liars. Trump, Biden, Harris, Obama, Bush, Clinton, etc. Name one US presidential candidate or any politician of all time that isn't/wasn't. It's a job requirement. Thus, my remark on hypocrisy in the post with the link. From the video transcript, with sources: "The next day, it was revealed that the scene was a literal stage play. The adoring crowd were not grassroots supporters of Donald Trump who all spontaneously decided to wear the same Trump t-shirts and awkwardly pose with their “homemade” signs for the cameras, but, as an FEC investigation later confirmed, literal actors paid $50 each by the Extra Mile Casting agency on behalf of their client, Gotham Government Relations & Communications.

But it didn’t matter. Like all the iterations of the President Messiah script that came before, Trump’s Make America Great Again psychodrama was already having its intended effect on the population."
Sorry, I am not doing the "pretending that he has a point" bit.
