How is it that fighting is forbidden, then you have armaggedon. Maybe there's a passive reason it's the final battle ever.

I think the idea is that God is the commander and chief. No fighting until he says to fight. He did say "If this was my kingdom my people would fight" , when they were crucifying him.

Because to me Armageddon (the final war) is God's war and Not men's war.
It is God who has a controversy with the nations who are against His anointed (aka Jesus) according to Psalms 2:2.
Wicked people will Not relinquish any of their power or position peacefully, hence they cause a need for divine involvement into mankind's affairs. An ' Act of God ' (Armageddon) to eliminate evil on Earth.
Please notice Jesus will use angelic armies (Not us humans) to do the fighting for us according to Revelation 19:14
It will be the 'executional words' from Jesus' mouth which will rid the earth of the wicked forever.
- Revelation 19:15; Isaiah 11:3-4; Psalms 92:7; Proverbs 2:21-22

To me, God has placed Jesus as Commander in Chief ( Hail to the Chief ! ) of angelic armies - Revelation 19:14-15
The world is Not his kingdom government, but the kingdom of God is his government - Daniel 2:44; Matthew 24:14
Since Jesus and angelic forces do the fighting, then people on Earth will Not have a hand in fighting for Jesus.
The words from Jesus' mouth will execute the wicked thus putting an end to wickedness on Earth - Isaiah 11:3-4.

How is it that fighting is forbidden.....

I assume you mean for Christians, right? Do you believe this? I hope so. Because, you're right.

Now, why hasn't Christendom "forbidden" their flock from doing so? They've joined the world in its wars, proving themselves 'friends of the world'. (James 4:4) Even killing fellow professed Christians. They certainly haven't obeyed Jesus! -- John 14:15; compare John 13:34-35; Matthew 5:44

Very sad state of affairs.
