Well, at school we heard about it early enough. My sister heard it, and it made people remember the Civil War. Hariri's been completely burnt, just so you know.

Also, I think the Syrians did it, and I think everyone else does.

Plus, my dad was a friend of his, and my uncle helped him get a job.

Every good person who comes along is assasinated. Isn't that some sort of record?

Well, I think I'll be living in quite an eventful country after this.

I heard that it was 10kg of explosives......

Is it just me or does the fact that there is now a 30 foot crater in Beirut not surprise anyone??????

Why would the Syrians kill him? (Not saying they didn't. Just trying to understand the politics behind his murder.)

Sorry, it was around 200 kg of TNT.

Well, they have around 15,000 troops in Lebanon, and Hariri was one of many people who wanted them out. He'd resigned because the Syrians decided to extend President (Stupid) Lahoud's term (the Syrians have a LOT of influenece here. Not good influence, though). Anyways, it seems he wanted to run for prime minister again. This guy is actually the person who helped create Resolution 1559 (if you need more information, I can tell you), and the Syrians were not happy with it. Also, this is the guy who has met with many people, unlike the stupid President. A few people:

George Bush
Tony Blair
Kofi Annan
Jaques Chirac
King Fahd (was friends with him before his was crowned king)
and many many more...........

He's also a billionaire, one of the richest people in the world. Suprisingly enough, he did it nearly completely on his own. He was actually born in a poor family, the son of a farmer. Pretty suprising....

Also, the burial is tomorrow. Don't think I'd be allowed to go.

And I am angry, like every other *good* Lebanese here. :(

Oh, and it is also possible the Syrians collaberated with some *bad* Lebanese.
The meaning of *good* = against Syria
The meaning of *bad* = with Syria
So, even if Syria itself was not involved directly, it was in some way.

Well, here's his page on his TV network's website:

Like I thought, the Rafiq thing was in my Swedish morning paper today: two full pages, including well researched background material on Syria's previous actions and probable involvement.

One perhaps marginal thing I'd like to know, though: the article mentioned the Druze politician Walid Jumblatt, and the possibilty that Syria murdered his father, Walid Jumblatt (president of the parliament? for some mysterious reason, I distinctly remember "ra'is u-l-majlisi"), who was featured in a textbook of Arabic I used in the 1970's. Do you know of any websites that supply more information on them?
