These forums, listed above, are what makes Religious Forums unique. The were designed to teach aspects of the faiths naming the Forum or subforum. Nobody else, no other board, I know of combines this religious feature with discussion or with debate.

But the Religious Education Forums should not have discussion or debate (discussion is for expressing an opinion and debate is defending or "attacking" an opinion) The education forums should teach from authoritative sources the dogma, creeds, practices, and make-up (I am sure I missed some topics) of the faith. Discussion should not be invited here by creating polls or starting a topic sure to invite board wide obverse comment. Questions are not discouraged as long as they not "hostile" but sincerely seeking expansion or clarification of a point made in the thread. The object here is to teach and learn!

It is not a catch-all for all Christian topics, for example. Debate for Christians can be had in the Same Faith Debate Forum; discussion, in Comparative Religion.

That's my feelings about it and I hate to see the trend continue to purposely invite comment and/or debate. We have something precious here.

I think pah is trying to say that the purpose of the forum ought to be purely for 'passing on information' for educating purposes.

If I am right pah, should'nt you accept that 'the devil's advocate' is often the best methodology for believers to crystalize their own thoughts, and to prompt further research and earning?:)

Is this the policy for threads in the educational section?
The policy is discussion. Now of course with discussion your going to get inside "debate". We try to do the best we can to know when that boundry has been broken and when we feel a post/thread needs to be moved or deleted.

I never go to those sections but pah had a good thought. Alot of other religious sites don't even have these sections. Pah is trying to make the best out of these as we do have them.

I believe that I may be one of Pah's offenders . Sorry , I try not to get into a debate in those forums . But I'm not sure what their purpose is ?

There is a fine line between discussion and debate . { which am I doing now ??? ;) } If someone makes a point , and another askes a question of that point , is that debate , descussion , or just trying to clear something up ? { the latter would be discussion , but is it allowed } . What about adding to anothers statement ? As I say , I'm not quite sure what those forums are about . And I do sometimes get lost ... forgetting which forum I'm in at the time . :)

The bad thing about having debates is that some people take things the wrong way. Or they think they know all on the matter and aren't willing to take the other's view into consideration, wether they are right or wrong..

How IS iris89 these days rofl

I agree Pah. It is HARD to not yell "Troll" or to point out that what is being presented as fact is merely hooie.

Well thanks Soul, but we really shouldn't have to.

The problem is, SOME people have lost touch of the difference betwixt "opinion" and "fact". They feel that the mere act of BELIEVING something makes it a fact.

I feel like I am listening to Rush "Let me tell you what to Think" Limbaugh.
