Four States Could Secede From US and Join Canada to Avoid Trump—Democrat

Liz Krueger, who chairs the New York State Senate Finance Committee, argued that the Empire State, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Vermont, could all suffer under Trump's new administration.

Citing his proposed crackdown on immigration and promise of mass deportation, the Manhattan Democrat believes liberal and sanctuary states such as New York could be threatened with cuts in the amount of federal funding they receive, a move the incoming leader and his cabinet have suggested, should states oppose new policy measures.

This is not the first time the New York Democrat has offered up a radical and improbable plan to counter Trump's policies, suggesting in September, ahead of his election win, that the bloc of blue states should join Canada.

"I thought I would suggest to Canada that instead of us all trying to illegally cross the border at night without them noticing, which is pretty hard because there's a lot of us, that they should instead agree to let us be the southeast province, a new province of Canada.

"And I offered, even though I hadn't gotten agreement from other states yet, that I thought New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, would combine and be a great new province as the southeast province of Canada," Krueger said in an interview with news site City and State New York.

Searches for "moving to Canada" peaked on Google Trends on the evening of Tuesday, November 5, and the next day. The search engine detected the highest search volumes for terms such as "how to legally move to Canada," "moving to Canada from U.S," and "moving to Canada requirements" from traditionally progressively states including Oregon, Washington, New Hampshire, and Vermont.

I realize this is probably more of a joke than anything else. But it seems quite a few people are leaving the U.S. because of Trump. I heard Sharon Stone is moving to Italy.

Would Canada even take these states as part of their country?

It doesn't surprise me at all.

The squalid thing is that the motivations are not sensible. It deals with TDS, which is a psychiatric issue.

Only psychiatrists can explain this syndrome.

The process to integrate them into Canada would probably take longer than the four years it would take to be free of Trump.

Hell if I had the power, I would give the people's Republic of New York and the People's Republic of California to Canada for free!

And the rest of the US would greatly suffer as a consequence. Do you have any idea how much California benefits the rest of the country? Any clue at all???

Of course we would. New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Vermont are already so much like us I can't imagine why we wouldn't. Connectictut and Vermont, when added to Quebec, will make maple syrup a highlight of tables all around the world!

I'm glad you left out New Hampshire -- they've really lovely towns (I've been to Keene), but they've got this odd notion of dying instead of putting up with a few basic rules.

And you've left off the other coast -- I think Canada would be happy to take Washington as part of us, and it would certainly solve a number of rather difficult border (and crossing) issues.

It is happening in the UK too. Tory/Farage/Brexit lovers/ True Patriots are leaving the UK because Starmer has raised the minimum wage and settled the nurse and train drivers strikes. Charlie Mullins, I'm looking at you.

Brexit didn't change a thing.
Britain is still a partner of the EU. So...remainers are realizing that remaining was utterly unnecessary.

If you listen to every foolish comment ever made by the Dems then you would be doomed.

This is treacherous behavior. This is how they start. I smell 'treason'.o_O

Why the desire to join another country? Why not seek independence?

NY could just try to split into a couple of smaller states though!;)
The metropolitan regions of NYC is where all the crazy Dems are concentrating. The rest of the state is great. They would love to separate themselves from the loonies.:monkey:

California, on the other hand - already tried to secede a multiple times in the past. California was a part of Mexico at one point. So, why would they join Canada before joining with Mexico? Why join any other nations? Why not try to be independent?
Makes no sense!

Let's imagine two third of our law makers decided to amend the Constitution and somehow allowed California to secede (never gonna happen). Let's call it Cal-exit.

What will follow?

We will soon have a scenario like Ukraine and Russia. We will try to get some of the land from California Republic back. The land where some conservatives live! We will leave the Spanish speaking areas alone.

Now the question is - will we be okay if Russia pokes its nose and decides to arm and help the Californians fight against us?;)

Think about that!

So, why are we helping Ukraine?

By the way, Trump may or may not cut federal packages for NY or California. We don't know yet!
But the state of these two States will soon be on a decline mode (either way).;)

This is their own undoing!

They took in too many migrants.
More than they can handle!
Now they have to cut from other sectors and bring in the 'dough' - to support those migrants. Otherwise it will be a tent city.

Biden (if still around) will sit peacefully in his basement with Kamala and smirk, smirk & smirk like a dirty old man.

The Dems will plan their next move, while these two States and a couple of other ones - struggle, struggle and struggle.

It won't be Trump's fault. But fools will blame him because that is what the fools do.;)

some state seems to want to secede after every election these days..... basically, IMO, we have become a nation of big babies who if they don't get their way they will take their ball and go home. WE no longer face problems or work to fix them or make things better, we jsut threaten to run away...but we fon;t even do that...... takes effort..... don't expect me to return to this post...not interested in the argument, just voicing my opinion

Your ending analogy is rather poor since Ukraine has been its own country for quite some time and before that it was part of the Soviet Union, which is technically not Russia. By the reasoning that you used Russia could try to retake Poland. Now as to the thread i have never seen a Democrat seriously talk about secession. It was more of a joke than anything else. Sort of like our President-elect. But the latter is just rather scary and sad and amazingly incompetent joke.

Alaska used to be a part of the empire of Russia. Wonder if they have any plans to cancel on the old deal we made?
