Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution and Abortion

Even though I agree (and insist on including "elective"), I don't do that because the fetus is (nor does it make it) a person.

I am so shocked that in the US there is black/white vision on abortion.
In my country an abortion done at the 30th week is called first degree murder.

Why, in your opinion?

In my language there is no such an expression.
Always direct object present.
To expect a baby.
Yes: a baby is the thing they're awaiting that hasn't arrived yet.

In Italian, does someone who already has a university degree say that they "expect" their degree, or is this something that people only say when they don't have their degree yet.

since "fetus" is a modern day designation...
Well, we do live in a modern age.
It's why we don't call an erupting volcano "Angry god" anymore.

We should avoid etymological arguments.
They rely upon muddying multiple definitions of words.
I wills tay with the original designation of "baby" :) let love flow and call me a snowflake if you so desire :)
I only said such a view was "snowflakie".
I call you far worse names...behind your back, of course.
(I'm sensitive & caring that way.)

you got an answer. change your belief system to show that a fetus is recognized in the bible. otherwise. you're in contrast to your basic teaching
With all due respect, this is a political thread. Not a religious one.
And I am debating as if I were an atheist.

you definitely are an atheist if you associate matter as the creator of spirit, mind, consciousness. if so then matter is greater than spirit.

Whenever I speak of juridical matters, I am an atheist, yes.

your bible doesn't recognize a fetus as a soul. a soul has the breath of life in it, a mind. literally ruach
the extra weight gain is needed obviously. but that is only for those wanting a baby. also, the ot and nt do not recognize a spirit in a fetus. it's only after birth and taking the breath of life that it is counted.

are you seriously wanting to change the bible too?

I was not talking about weight gain. A federal welfare system counts JR for need assessments before birth.

Ss for the Bible. Jer 1:5 Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.

John 9:2 And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?

It’s quite clear that the biblical view is that life does not begin at birth.

Right: they expect a baby to arrive in a few months. You don't "expect" something that's already happened.

"We're expecting my aunt to come over today!"

"But honey - I'm already here. I got here an hour ago."

"Yes, but I can still expect you!"

"..."
But "i'm expecting you" didn't mean that you weren't there or weren't alive... I just couldn't see you at the moment. :)

With more information on a subject, any subject, the opinions usually get more nuanced. When you have only few information (this includes dismissing information contrary to your opinion), it is easy to have a black and white opinion.

"I'm expecting you" to turn into a rational, liberal, secular humanist. Does that mean you already are, we just don't see it yet?
