Freedom, Obedience, Maturity

Freedom and obedience come hand in hand:

In order to be truly and meaningfully free one must be obedient

And obedience without freedom is oppression

People must have a say in what the laws are but they must also obey them once they are enacted

This is for the political community's common good - for the good of all individuals in the political community

To realise this is a sign of political maturity

I am hoping this will be contentious :D

Sometimes the laws and whole system become broken and are poorly written allowing loopholes, or are written by people who make themselves above the law. Pretty soon, there is no sight left, and you only have to be obedient if you don't have money.

I don't agree obedience in my opinion opposes freedom. To be truly and meaningfully Free one needs compassion and empathy. Oppression is Forceful obedience without compassion and empathy.

I can see your point, although in practice, it appears that lawyers and judges can have different views, opinions, and interpretations of the law, necessitating that they have to argue about it in court at various levels.

If the law was some kind of exact science, this wouldn't happen. Less than one percent of the population are lawyers, and even these trained legal minds can't seem to agree on what the law actually is. What chance does the general public have of obeying that which few people can actually understand?

Perhaps one could say that for the popular will to be done and made real the popular will must be obeyed by the entire population, even those who disagree with what has been decided???

That living in a democracy is a give and take thing???

Apart from that, I don't know

I don't really believe that myself, just speculating for the purposes of having a conversation so sorry, I don't really have much of an answer for you

I think I get what you are trying to say but obedience is such a dirty word. I don't obey the laws, I follow them because (when) I understand why they are there.
