There is limited freedom.

There is true freedom to believe in many countries, however even in those countries there can be limits to certain religious practices, e.g. those that harm others.

So if your religion says slavery is ok its still not ok to actually own slaves (as this would breach Article 4 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights).

Exactly. If I believe that my religion's most important commandment is to kill everyone that doesn't believe in the magical gay unicorn I worship, I will never be given the right to practice my religion. Nor should I.

this is ridiculous. you cannot blindly follow a religion. you must first understsand its foundation principles then know whether you belong to it or not. and then if conformed with your inner voice follow it man.

Sure some people find the religion that makes the most sense for them. But most people just inherit their religion. Are you really trying to tell me that people in this region of the world have an inner voice that opposes science, and people in that region of the world have an inner voice that compels them to bomb whoever doesn't believe what they do, and it has nothing to do with what religion they inherited and therefore very likely "accepted?"

IMO, your inner voice is more affected by your religion than the other way around, man.

I think that the Principles of Unitarian Universalism say alot of how we can practice our faith, since it is based on the principles of humanism: the very first part of our Covenant is the 'inherent worth and dignity of every person,' and thus if any religious ideology or practice does not abide by this first principle will obviously cause alot of strain with the rest of society.

Religion and the religious should be offered no additional protection beyond that which is offered to the rest of the populace. Believe what the hell you want but don't expect others to have to accomodate it, especially if it results in harm to others.
