Anyone else bothered by the existence of what I call either fundamentalist or mainstream atheists? To be honest, these guys and gals annoy me more than almost any other group. I'm talking about these outspoken atheist who'll literally result to fideism in their hate for religion or fallacy to attack religion. Pretty much 99% of r/atheism.

Anyone else see these folks?

I used to see them everywhere, left and right, and I thought that there was so many of them... it seemed to me at the time that it was a common thing. But then I realized I was just hanging out with the wrong people.

These folks try to make religion trip over its own feet, while themselves pertaining a superiority complex, merely narcissistically trying to feel superior by attacking a group that is easy to attack. The problem with that is, once they eliminate the thing they find inferior, they will have nothing to make them feel superior, and so they circularly convince and retreat until timing is due, all the damage they put on religion has healed, and then they strike again.

That's all they are; parasites, living off of senseless comparison.

Well, I have a thread on this very thing, and I don't even believe in a god, I was shocked how these people acted, they thought they had the answer for every dam thing you can think of.

They are more what I would term anti-theists, although they may also be atheist. These people use science in the same way as a theistic zealot would use God - to beat other people around the head. They crave certainty and superiority, which can happen in any number of ways - it also manifests among theists, satanists, political idealogues and intellectuals, astrologers, artists, even among environmentalists. It is a very general and ubiquitous psychological problem in homo sapiens.

Basically, it is an expression of insecurity of identity.

Are these the atheists in question?

Nah, it is more like the flabby fat pasty skinned neckbearded basement dwelling trolls, gamma males who love anime a bit too much and whose only chance at claiming any power in their sad, pathetic and meaningless lives is to troll theist on the internet that are in question.

People like The Amazing Atheist.

LOL, It took me a while, but I get it.

Not just ironic, but a completely pointless invention and a total waste of natural resources. There's these things called scissors and utility knives, and they're useful for a heck of a lot more than that piece of garbage.

Still not getting the relevance to the topic, though. Whatever.

You got dat right. A fundamentalist atheist would just be one who believes all the
fundamentals, ie, there are no gods. That is not the same as fervent uncivil behavior.

I don't think so.

I can see the point of that graphic though. There are people with the same mindset as those under discussion, but who express that mindset as religious belief which is anti-atheist (as opposed to theist). The mindset can take a religious or anti-religious form. It's sneaky.

Good point, I didn't like my term anyways.

Which people do you call "fundamentalist or mainstream atheists"?

Edit: I should probably point out that while I recognize "r/atheists" as referring to Reddit, I don't go to Reddit very often and I'm not familiar with what normally occurs in r/atheists. However, from what little I've seen of Reddit, I question whether any of it can be taken as representative of the mainstream outside of Reddit.

Maybe their criticisms have too much truth in them for you?
