That's one thing that greatly confuses me about America. The country yells for freedom of speech and decries even the slightest amount of censorship in any context. Even going so far as accuse other countries of lacking such a respect for free speech. And yet they're the only ones I know of (in the West) that heavily censors television. Everyone else just kicks back adult shows/movies to past prime time and only really censors a show if it airs before 8pm. Whereas, at least when I was in Cali, it was censored all the time. It greatly threw me.

If a show is created for family viewing, that's one thing. It doesn't bother me. But on the other hand, whenever they decide they're going to overdub profanity with a non-profane equivalent, that's when it gets so unbelievably silly that most people make fun of it and joke about it.

Here's an example from the movie Casino, from a scene that's filled with profanity in its original form, but here is the overdubbed version:

One thing I'd like to see on Game of Thrones: A debate about the ongoing political developments in the Seven Kingdoms - featuring Mord and Hodor.

"No gold!"
"Hodor!"
"No gold!"
"Hodor!"

I live in South East Asia and they are censored all the time :(

There are very easy ways around this you know...

I've got HBO and I still use the 'alternative' methods as HBO in my neck of the woods is censored for nudity and language (strangely the f word, but not the c word :D)
All the "alternative methods" I found necessitate expending money.

Where in the world is your neck of the woods that HBO is censored? China?

ETA: Just saw the previous posts.

Seek and ye shall find, 55 million others did in the first 24 hours... ;)

I am aware of the existence of those kinds of sites.

If the choice is waiting until it is available on Netflix six months from now or letting a torrent server into my system...

I'll wait. In fact, I'll probably wait until after I can no longer remember if John Snow marries Daenerys or kills her.

**** off! /stomps away!

That is because there is no cure for being the latter! (Bronn) No use hiding it with a censor

The subtitled translation is a really mild word too, the equivalent of 'jerk'.

On a different channel, if you have English subtitles, they don't censor the audio, but star out the word f*** when it's written. Also numerous radio stations don't censor hip-hop tracks at any time of the day.

I've absolutely no idea about the 'logic' behind it all.

Was this on HBO or some other channel?

I do not know if it is that or if subscription channels (HBO is up here) have a different set of rules regarding censoring. Normal cable channels do censor here.
Going by what I saw on a CNN report, Chinese censors censor things as they happen (I'm guessing they have some sort of delay to allow censors time to censor similar to how some live shows in America do).
