Episode 2 was good after a long time. Was seriously put off by last season's "Let's catch a zombie" stupidity.

I watched the first 5000, then got bored. I'd rather see all the nude scenes than the death scenes.

It never occurred to me that the ice zombies were a metaphor for AGW. Is that a right-wing thing?

It wouldn't surprise me if both sides have nutters doing that with the author saying "please don't." There's actually a reason for all that (including the abnormal seasons), and it has not yet been revealed to the audience. And don't forget it is a fantasy instead of just a work of fiction. It doesn't need a real world reason to have the Others.
I love most of the death scenes. I loved seeing the Faith getting blown up in a pretty green fire. I loved watching a little one die. I loved Trent's death. And I loved watching this person and that person die. Except Jeoffry. I wanted to see him suffer more.
And I didn't enjoy watching all the characters die. But I also feel denied it's looking I won't see a certain someone getting ripped apart like he deserves.

I guess some fans aren't too happy with the direction the series is taking in season 8.

I do not understand why there are people so upsed with the last few episodes.
Apparently many people hold a far more generous opinion of
than mine. The character is not nearly as virtuous as people seem to want to perceive it to be. Frankly, I was a bit upset when some other character showed a bit too much acceptance towards it back in season 7.
The same used to happen regarding
despite the showrunners going out of their way to make him appear more altruistic and sympathetic than he ever was in the books.
George R.R. Martin may have happened into a deep insight about how people project expectations into fictional characters.

I had less complaint with the transition of the character. Though it was so abrupt due to the shortened season and needing to wrap things up that it was unnatural. We had a better descent into madness story in Anakin Skywalker and that's saying something.
My complaint is more about things like magical scorpion bolts that function when the plot calls for it, characters surviving or dying through writer fiat and plot armor which the series has meticulously avoided until this season. Tyrion and Varys making wildly out of character decisions for the last two seasons. (Even more than Dany imo) Long character arch setups with no good payoff (Bran, the Night King, Jon), and audience or writer favorite characters getting payoff with no setup (Arya, Euron).

(while ludicrously changing the pace of story in the last 2 seasons to force the story to artificially fit that number.)
Give the show to someone else if you don't want to do it any more rather than pretending the only reason you are stopping is that you had run out of material and extending it further wold simply have been unnecessary padding.
Wouldn't be all that surprised if next week 8 year old Bran wakes up, walks downstairs and says to Ned, "Daddy, I've just had the strangest dream..." Walking off, Ned replies "Not now son, have you forgotten what day it is? King Robert and Queen Cersei will be here soon along with Jamie Lannister and the imp". Then Bran finds a raven feather in his pocket, looks quizzically at it, then looks quizzically at the camera, raises an eyebrow. fade to black. The end.
