Namaste,
could somebody translate the following mantra for me:
Om Gan Ganapataye Namo Namah
Shree Siddhi Vinayak Namo Namah
Ashtavinayak Namo Namah
Ganapati Bappa Moraya
"Google is my friend" but still I couldn't find a translation. Thanks in advance!
Namaste
I would not call the 4 lines together as a mantra, but a nice rhythmic "bhajan dhun",
as sung here: om gaM gaNapataye namo namah
Before we go into the meaning and word analysis, would like to add that the bhajan tune is an all-time favourite, and used for other bhajans that fit into the tune-rhythm, e.g. the popular CD for gayatri mantra jap, or for "
Shri NAth ji sharaNam mama, thAkurji sharaNam mama, yamunAji sharaNam mama, jai mahAprabhuji sharaNam mama"....
Very Divine, sweet, peaceful and uplifting. Tune - raag, rhythm - chhanda , singer's purity and bhakti-bhAv, listener's bhakti-bhAv , all add up to the recipe to bring bliss to the soul.
Aum gaM gaNapataye namah: - is the real mantra for GaNapati a.k.a GaNesh / GajAnan.
Aum - the transcendental cosmic sound - nAda Bramhan
gaM - beej i.e. seed of mantra for GaNapati i.e. Shri GaNesh. Every vaidic mantra for a Deity, has a seed , beej in SaMskRt, e.g. klim, hreem, etc. Here, it is not gam but 'ga' + anuswAr which is the dot above devnAgiri letter 'ga' -- gaM
gaNapat-aye - accusative for GaNapati - like vAsudev-
Aya == to/for vAsudev
gaNa-pati = Lord of the Shiv-gaNas i.e. Lord of Shiv's army of Beings.
namo - I venerate, glorify, pay obeissances to
namah: Whatever is being chanted, I have no hand in it. " idam na mama" - This was the Vaidic seers' way to transcend the ego.
Not mine. The ahuti (offering) I give into the fire-flames of the yajna is "not mine" - I do not possess wealth, whatever I have
belongs to the Supreme
Shri SiddivinAyaka namo namah:
Shri = prefix as title of honor - used for one who possesses the Divine qualities and oppulence , Shri
Siddhi = perfection
Vi-nAyak = The Divine or Good Leader (nAyak) of a group = gaNa-pati = Leader of Shiv-gaNa = GaNesh
SiddhivinAyak = one of the 8 forms of GaNapati. The Perfect GaNapati Who bestows intellectual perfection on devotees
AshTavinAyak namo namah:
AshTa = eight
AshTavinAyak = Eight forms of GaNapati found in various locations in India - Maharashtra - read the Wiki link

Ganapati Bappa MorayA !! - this is a veneration, not a mantra.
Bappa = Father -figure, Who protects us, takes care of us
MorayA : Several theories :
a) A reference to Moreshwar Ganapati at Morgaon, Pune
b) In honor of MoryA GosAvi - a super-devotee of GaNapati from KarnATaka who settled in Maharashtra , built the Moreshwar Temple, and attained liberation - samAdhi, was granted a boon by GaNesh , his Lord, that his name will be remembered along with My name. Also, since MoryA GosAvi became One with GaNapati, the devotee and Lord are One. So it is a double ref. for both.
Also, my guess: The siddha purush GosAvi -- usually sannyAsis purvAshram info (details of life prior to sannyAs) are neither asked nor told. So, since this siddha sannyAsi built the Moreshwar Temple, perhaps he got the name MoryA GosAvi?
