Gatka: Sikh Martial Arts

Gatka is the divine martial arts of Sikhi founded by the 6th Guru, Guru Hargobind Singh Ji. It is a variation of Shastar Vidhiya, The indian martial arts. It is the biggest reason atm why alot of Sikh Youths are getting back into Sikhi.

It was made to fight off the Mughal and various other invaders and worked really well.

Here's a video Demo:

Fighting and protecting ourselves is a big part of Sikhi. As we believing Peace, war is a necessary part of that. For peace to be attained learning to defend in a must. The Turban is a big impact of that. IT is the Symbol of a Warrior King. And shows our history. There is a big responsibility once you don the Turban. You now stand out in a crowd, and you must defend the weak even at the cost of your life. And as a Turbaned Sikh I live by that rule everyday. One of the bigger reason I am willing to join the Military for my path to become a Doctor and why I am an EMT.

If you look at the Sikh symbol the Khanda.

It is the Khanda Sword in the middle, A chakram, and two Kirpans..

Left Kirpan: Truth
Right Kirpan: Willingness to fight for what is right
Chakram: God, represented as never ending never beginning.
Khanda: Knowledge and Power

To become a Sikh is to become a warrior.

That's some wicked fighting. I don't think throwing chakrams though is a good idea however :p

Yes thats the video. Damn forum putting a post limit before posting videos. Thank you lol. Yea we didn't do chakram throwing. It's way to dangerous, but during the battles it was a great tool. Sikhs would capture Mughal Elephants and sit 4-5 sikhs with thousands of chakrams on them. They would charge the war elephants down the field and rain Chakrams in enemy positions.
