Gay marriage makes millions of orphans homeless

Smoke

Done here.
Or not.

The Archdiocese of Washington has followed through with its threat to get out of the foster care business if same-sex marriage is legalized in the District of Columbia. Since the issue first came up, anti-gay activists have warned of the dire consequences that would ensue if the Catholic Church were "forced" to give up handling foster care and adoptions. (Actually, of course, nobody forced them to do any such thing.) Now the apocalypse is upon us.

FOXNews.com - Washington Archdiocese Scraps Foster Care Program Over Gay Marriage Law

The Archdiocese has transferred its entire caseload to the National Center for Children and Families. The numbers: 7 staff members, 43 foster children, and 35 foster families.

At the end of fiscal year 2008 there were 2217 children in foster care in D.C.

Truly, we have reaped the whirlwind. Perhaps as many as 2% of foster children in D.C. will, as a result of the legalization of same-sex marriage, be impacted -- by continuing to receive uninterrupted foster care. I hope everyone appreciates the magnitude of the smackdown the Church has delivered.

This is a tragedy of unimaginable proportions, Smoke. And the saddest part of it is it could have been prevented if only gays in Washington DC had been willing to give up their rights. It's certainly a dire day for America when some of its citizens are unwilling to give up their rights. I don't like where all of this seems to be going. Not one bit.

The real crime here is that now, many of these kids may be robbed of their one chance in life to serve as Altar Boys for some Catholic priest that only wants to help them find their way in life.

At least we can rest easy, knowing that the Archdiocese didn't allow the lives of kids to become a political football, in spite of the efforts of all of those wicked gays.

I think the joke is very funny, but I have to say... It's a little disgusting that the church cares SO little about these children, that they are willing to use them as fodder for their own gains. I'm extremely disgusted.

I agree. I think it is pretty asinine that the church felt that in order to get it's point across it had to use these children like they were pawns in some "game." It's pathetic really. And it shows the biggest reason why I dislike churchs--not religion, just churchs-- the inability to concede, or think outside the box they forced their heads into.

For them to use the kids in this way... as pawns... shows just how sick and twisted religious-based morals and ethics are. They aren't in it to help the kids... all they are after is their souls.

Remember this is the same church that in the middle ages endorsed the Children's Crusade, which resulted in thousands of kids being sold into slavery in Northern Africa. This isn't the first time kids have been pawns. No one, apparently, learns a damn thing from Church history.

Because they are so busy reading the Bible, or pretending like they do when Sunday rolls around.
