Gender Neutral Bathrooms

Jaymes

The cake is a lie
I really, really wish there were more gender-neutral bathrooms out there. If they were there, I'd use them. I don't exactly feel uncomfortable or unsafe in female restrooms, it just feels wrong to go in them.

Why do you feel wrong to go in them? Would you feel better in the mens? Do you get looks or how do you feel?

Sorry for the questions...I'm just curious:eek:

Because I'm not a girl! :D I'm not a boy, either, so it feels wrong to go in the men's bathrooms, too. I don't really get looks because I "blend in" even though I wear men's T-shirts and baggy jeans (I think it's because I have really long hair and my face in kinda feminine), but I'd be far more "at home" in a gender-neutral bathroom.

If you don't mind me prying, what do you mean by you aren't a girl or not a boy.....Sorry.

When you don't fit into the gender stereotypes, people can get very hostile very fast. Especially if it's somewhere with alcohol involved.

I don't mind at all! It would be silly for me to post it and not expect questions.

I'm biologically female, but I'd be happier with no sex organs or breasts. But I don't want to be male, either, so I'm not transgendered. Some people call it genderqueer, but I just prefer to stick with "I'm not a boy or a girl".

Oh, okay.:)

I'm not sure if this is a good idea or not. I don't think it would really make any difference for me since I would probably only go out like that to places that are more accepting to it. Although, I'm sure I would run into a few instances where that isn't the case. I think it's a good idea for those who are asexual, but not necessarily for the transgendered. If I went as far as wanting people to actually view me as a female, I would use the female restroom dammit! I wouldn't use a gender neutral bathroom just because I feel "safer". That would appease my offenders. I personally would continue using the normal bathrooms. But perhaps that's just me.

I am certainly not asexual :flirt: and would still use a gender neutral bathroom. But I also don't see it as a case of "them vs. us" with "them" winning if we get a safe space any more than having separate bathrooms for males and females means one gender "won". For me I suppose it's more an issue of "belonging" in one or the other.

So what's the point of this then? You'd have "men's, women's, and other's" restrooms? By gender neutral does that imply that men and women will now be doing their business in the same room at the same time?

Some gender neutral bathrooms have only one stall, so only one person is in there at a time, and others have multiple locking stalls with no urinals... no less private than any other bathroom.

Wouldn't bother me to be "doing my business" in the same room as someone of the opposite sex, truth be told.

Doesn't asexual mean, "sexless"? I wasn't meaning it in terms of sexual preference, it that's what you thought? Or is it something other than that?

And I'm not saying anything about one gender winning. I'm simply saying that I would want to be looked at as a female rather than a transgendered individual. I would feel that I "belong" in the ladies room. And I would fight for that until it became safe for me and others to do so.

You might not. But I ask because this is potentially very unsafe for women. I can imagine an upswing of rapes if we eliminated male/female restrooms and made them all unisex.

I'm not sure if eliminating them is what's being considered here. I think it's more of simply adding and extra option.

Then I'm on board with it. The current situation doesn't really fly with homosexuals anyway...not to mention the transgendered.

I don't have a problem at all with Gender Neutral restrooms but I don't think that there should be ONE restroom for ALL in public places.

There are certain things that I don't want men to be present for...even if they're beyond a stall. I'm sorry. It's excruciating enough to use public restrooms as it is because they are always so filthy and there's NEVER enough room at baby changing stations to change your baby.

If PISSR wants to bring in Gender Neutral restrooms, I think it's great but I think what really needs to be done here is to IMPROVE existing restrooms.

Public restrooms need to be CLEANER and much LARGER. And ALL baby changing stations, in my opinion, should be spacious and behind stalls.

I can't tell you how much I loathe going to a public restroom to change my daughter and the baby changing station is right next to the sinks and when you change your kid...of no fault of your own...you're blocking the way. So, you get grunts and bad looks probably 99% of the time from people of your OWN sex. It SUCKS!

I've also left restaurants frustrated because they don't even have a baby changing station.

I can't tell you how many times I walk in and then immediately exit public restrooms around here.

I refuse to utilize a facility that is pee soaked and literally smells like an out house. I NEVER leave home without a diaper bag containing mini rolls of Charmin...toilet sanitizer...hand sanitizer...hand and surface sanitizing wipes and toilet seat covers.

If PISSR wants to conglomerate everyone into one restroom...I don't like that idea. It's awkward enough utilizing public restrooms as it is. I don't particularly want men who can't relate in the slightest to the monthly BS that I endure to be standing on the other side of a stall while I deal with personal issues. I would be more than humiliated if a strange woman, let alone a strange man accidentally walked in on me while dealing with certain things.

If PISSR's goal is to create Gender Neutral restrooms for people who would like to utilize them...I think that's wonderful.

I hope while they're at it...they can IMPROVE the heck out of typical Women's restrooms out there because they're awful.

I was thinking of it in terms of sexual preference, yes. Literally "without sex", but that's genetically impossible. ;) Maybe agendered, but now I'm just getting into semantics. I get what you're saying now, though.

I understand that completely... nobody should be made to feel unsafe or out of place in a bathroom.

Actually, I'm not sure what my point was anymore. Please ignore me, I've been running on about 4 hours of sleep all day.

But Jensa, no one in the ladies room could possibly guess that you're not a girl, so I'm still not following why you're uncomfortable in the ladies' room. Like you say, you're biologically female, and it's biological functions that we use the restrooms for. Obviously, given the fact that there are not tons of gender neutral restrooms around, wouldn't you feel more at home in the ladies' room than the men's room?

(I'm sorry to be so dense and even more sorry if my confusion offends. It's definitely not meant to.)

I wouldn't feel terribly out of place in either of them... if there's only one toilet I'll go in either one if one's occupied. I don't go into men's restrooms that have more than one stall because I'm wary of legal action. It's hard to explain why I feel out of place in the women's restroom. I'm not a girl "in my head", I suppose, and it feels wrong to be going into the bathroom with girls when I'm not one.

So to answer your question, in a way I do. I don't have to worry about charges being pressed against me for going in the women's restroom. However I still don't feel like I should be in there.
