Georgia?

So what's with so many of us from Georgia on here?

Is everyone from the Atlanta metro area, or are people more spread out?

Well, my wife RaceKitty:hugkiss: and I live in metro Atlanta, or OTP. as our ' more urbane' friends who live ITP tell us.:jester5:

I know I've seen a few other GA peeps, but I don't recall many names. IIRC, Jensa lives in GA, but not close to the 'big city'.

Because Atlanta has become that boring? At least the North Metro side. That or I'M getting really boring as I get older.

All of my favorite coffee shops and deli's have closed down and the only place to go is Starbucks.:sad4: At least, since I quit drinking.:D

I personally would not live ITP. Worked there, just a few miles in, and did not particularly care for it.

Yeah well, I'm ITP, but only barely. Does that make me 'urbane'?

btw, I saw a green Beetle this past weekend on P'tree Industrial...you weren't out that way on Saturday morning, were you by chance?

Danisty is from GA too, though I've no idea where. I think there are a couple of others, but I can't remember right now.

There are all kinds of ITP. I'm sandwiched between Chamblee and Dunwoody. There are plenty of places to shop, many of them interesting, and I don't have to deal with traffic jams like people who live OTP do. I can get on the highway if it's convenient, or go around it if it's not.

Things farther OTP seem to be rather cookie cutter in choices, like your Starbucks example. And for me, I had better live ITP, because I'd be driving all over just to buy food I can actually eat. I'm highly dependent on the DeKalb Farmer's Mkt and Whole Foods and some other independent grocery stores for food. Even though supermarkets have expanded their "health food" lines in the past few years, just try living off their meagre variety sometime. :(

That's kind of my impression of OTP, at least where I've been (Mayretta, Powder Springs, Alpharetta, Snellville, Grayson, Duluth, mostly, but some of the southern part as well like Stockbridge.)

Which part of ITP did you work? If it was anywhere near Cobb Cloverleaf, I don't care much for that area either. East side ITP is very different.

Georgia is like me second home. My family lives around the Augusta area, in Hephzibah...??? You've probably never heard of Hephzibah, no one has!!!

No, I haven't had any occasion to go near Augusta in the years we've lived here, but who knows, I may be passing through the area next month. My daughter will be at a feis (Irish dance competition and cultural thingy) in June sometime. And I'm notorious for taking back roads for the view. :)

I worked in the Cumberland area. Lived in Smyrna at the time and had to bus around for two years. Actually wasn't that bad except for the cop knocking on my bedroom door at two in the morning. I liked the community center and Smyrna has an excellent library compared to the Cobb County system.

Now I'm back in the northern metro area (Cobb, Cherokee) and actually prefer the area as a place to live but wish there was a bit more of the social life around here. Actually there is a lot of growth around this area and new places but unlike Smyrna I just cannot walk somewhere without fear of being hit by a car. The sidewalks literally end when the streets hit Cherokee.

Well, you should visit. The people there are so kind. I feel sorry to leave every summer.

Oh, no wonder. I'm not very fond of that area, myself. I worked there 20 years ago, and like it even less now.

It's a problem around much of Atlanta, since there's no such thing as city planning, and *of course* everyone wants to/can afford to/can drive a car, right? sheesh

There's the very beginning of a move away from that in some places ITP. Chamblee is definitely moving that way, but it's small to make much of a nexus of things. They're building lofts, really nice ones, within walking distance of the MARTA station, the International Farmers Market, and several restarurants, not to mention the Post Office. It's not a bad plan, except I'd have prefered they not allowed the Wal-Mart to go in on P'tree Industrial. Those people just lie like a rug...sheesh...why would you want to deal with them?

If you wanna be. :D One friend, who has since moved to Michigan, used to live at the Mattress Factory Lofts on MLK just east of the Downtown Connector. He would razz us about commute times, we would goof on him when he couldn't get home because of Braves game traffic. Fun times.

Nope. I was on Cobb Parkway to meet some other nutty VW owners. The green wheel inserts are the sure fire give away spotting our :beetle:

IIRC, she lives near Savannah.
Atlanta is the 'poster child' for the bad that can happen without city planning:banghead3, and a lack of natural impediments like oceans and lake has allowed metro Atlanta to spread out ALL OVER north GA. Sigh...it sure can be a mess.

Anyway....come on GA peeps...REPRESENT! Fo' shizzle.

No kiddin! I wonder how well this town will be doing when us boomers retire and decide to move the heck AWAY from this traffic. When we're all geezers, how are we gonna get around in this mess without being crashed into or crashing into somthing? sheesh[/quote]

Pfffft....none of those guys are gonna give up their little feifdoms. Not even the ones in metro.

Northeast Georgia, right near the SC border. Convenient for buying fireworks :D

Haha, yeah I was amazed to find out you couldn't even buy sparklers here. Talk about a nanny state...sheesh...sparklers???

Off I-85, or further north? I like that part of the state, but then I like more mountains anyway.

Jaymes

The cake is a lie
I'm about 5 minutes from I-85 :) I drive through the lower part of the mountains on my way to school every day. It's absolutely gorgeous, but huge foothills aren't too gas-friendly. :149:

I've actually been to Hephzibah. In fact, I have a Luciferian friend who lives there...goes by the name Crucible online.

I'm just outside of Savannah. I live about 2 minutes from the last GA exit of I-95 before you get to South Carolina.

Perhaps we should plan some kind of meet-up? There certainly are a lot of us.
