getting into Star Trek

I have always enjoyed Star Trek but have never watched it systematically, I've watched one episode here and another episode there having randomly come across them whilst flicking through TV channels

I am not super into it, I am not a "trekkie" by any means but I've always liked it

However, I have decided that I want to watch them all through in a systematic manner as I think that is something I may enjoy to immersing myself into and that it would culturally enrich me

What I'd like to know is, where would be the best place to start?

In which order should I work through the various shows?

STTOS
STTNG
STDS9
STV
STE <--- I'd skip this one. And all the animated ones.
STD <--- Not to be confused with getting an STD thru unprotected boinking.
STP
STSNW <--- Be prepared for excessive "woke" characters & stories, & the dumbest premise ever (mushroom drive).

More info...

I've just seen how many episodes each of those have

Looks like it would take me years to work through them all

Which is good, I'm not complaining

Consider yourself fortunate that you've so much to look forward to.

I would start in chronological order: TOS, TAS, TNG, DS9, VOY, ENT. Some of the later series I haven't really had a chance to look at yet. I tried watching Discovery, but lost interest.

Oh, and when you get to Voyager, feel free to skip Season 2, Episode 15, "Threshold." (All the Trek series have their share of bad episodes, but this one is one that I just want to forget even exists.)

I'd pick a series that appeals to you and binge it, then hit another series that appeals to you and binge it... rinse repeat. DS9, Picard, and Discovery are serialized, so you gotta pretty much watch those in order, but TNG and TOS, (and to a lesser extent VOY and ENT) can be watched in a one-at-a-time fashion.

I think TNG and DS9 are the best. My favorite move is The Undiscovered Country.

Woa, woah woah. Lets not get too hasty.

Watch the original series. Then wait 5 years. Then watch Star Trek Next Generation, and make sure there are some commercials. The show should also be timed just about the same time as dinner so that you might miss it unless you record it. The producers anticipate that you will be seeing commercials, so its actually part of the show. If you just binge STNG you will not get the best experience.

Then you should take a detour and watch some knock offs and spoofs. For example you would be ready to watch Galaxy Quest and enjoy it. You are also ready for Andromeda and Farscape (ooh that one is good). Next watch Babylon 5. I recommend watching Babylon 5 before you ever see Star Trek DS9 or Voyager either.

Now you should be about 10 years into your adventure, and you are ready. You are ready for Voyager and DS9, both at the same time if you like. After that the order doesn't matter.

Lower decks is worth a watch. It is almost a parody of star trek, but with affection.

But of course it is meaningless if you haven't watched enough of the other shows to get the references.
`The Orville started off as a Trek spoof but really came into its own and truly feels like a mid-level ship and crew in the STNG era. ngl, I found the first season and the start of S2 to be a big cringey but that's because Seth MacFarlane had to sell the show as a spoof to get it greenlit (and his humor is often hit or miss with me). However, he gained more leeway and it's a lot more serious and the humor is turned down considerably (a level closer to that of STNG). I like that The Orville is not a flagship and the crew is not "the best of the best"; they're all very good at their jobs but they're also very flawed. (And DS9 fans: Penny Johnson, aka Kasidy Yates-Sisko, is The Orville's Chief Medical Officer.)

They also have epic space battles. There are currently 3 seasons. No word yet on S4 but it did gain popularity during S2 & S3, so fingers crossed.

And of course there's the upcoming STEIEIO which has the Enterprise being manned by highly advanced farm animals.

That this thought appeared in your mind
shows that you are a terrible person.
