Ghost dogs and authors, oh my!

The cake is a lie
I've had this story on my mind lately, and since it won't leave until I share it with someone I figured I'd tell you guys about it. :)

Last year I was lucky enough to be in an English class when Terry Kay, author of To Dance With the White Dog, visited our school. (I really recommend you guys read it--I think you'd all enjoy it)

We all went to the library, he talked to us about growing up in Royston, my hometown, getting his first book published, tips on writing, and generally just shooting the breeze. I remember his voice as one of the friendliest and most pleasant to listen to I've ever heard.

One part of his visit sticks out in my mind very much. (Quick background: To Dance With the White Dog is based on a true story about a white dog showing up after a man's [his father] wife dies and keeping him company until he passes on.) He told us about how one day he was signing books, and a woman approached him and said she had someone she wanted him to meet. He agreed to after the signing was done.

She took him into the parking lot, and in her car was a pure white dog that looked and acted exactly like the dog in his book. The woman said that the dog showed up after her father died. He says he's also gotten countless letters from people saying they have at one point seen or had a dog like that in the book.

The whole thing interests me to no end. Okay, now that I've got that off my chest... go read the book! :D Seriously, that's one of the better short books I've read.
