God's existence proved...

Lady Crimson

credo quia absurdum
...no, not really, but I do have a question for you:

If a god's (or several gods) existence were proved, a god which you do not believe in, would you turn from your faith to follow the true Creator/s?

I have asked myself this question and to say the truth, I'm not really sure if I would.

What about you?

i find hypothetical questions the hardest to answer, because a) I know that knee jerk reactions are those that we probably would have if confronted by something like this b) at the time of answering (ie now) I believe the question to be invalid, because I see no room for the situation coming up.

I've got a feeling I would have to stay as I was before.:)

Hard to say really. I don't believe in any gods as of now. If any gods were ever proven to me to be real, then I would by all means start believing in them... however I wouldn't 'follow' them unless I felt they were worthy of my time. It may sound a little arrogant, but I never plan on devoting my time to a being that I don't feel is a fitting creator. And considering the way the world is, and the lack of involvement (overall) from whatever god(s) may be out there... I don't think I'll be praising any god.

I don't believe in any Gods, so I would have no Godly faith to turn from :) I'd just let him do his thing and let it pass.

That depends. The argument for their existence would have to be conclusive. Otherwise I would probably just believe in them out of practicality, as I do with all other people, but still leave room for the possibility of their non-existence.

It'd have to be proved without a shadow of a doubt, & it'd have to be a damn good God to make me turn from Eris!

I concure with Ronule...

I would obviously believe in that/those god(s)...

now the question becomes is that/those god(s) worth worship, lifelong dedication and my time.

I'd ask if they really wanted to be worshipped or if it was okay to acknowledge they exist and just be nonworshipping. :)

Would a book of Scripture amended with an anonymous letter which says in part "this stuff is true ... honest" suffice?

Perhaps ? Perhaps not . Depending upon what they teach , or stand for .

Just because these Gods exist , doesn't mean they are the only God , or Gods . And if they stood for something I couldn't accept , then no , I wouldn't follow them . Of course , I would have to accept that they were Gods , but I would also have to be true to myself .

So I would likely just work them into my systems of beliefs ... which makes me wonder . If they were something I truely couldn't accept , could a man become a God killer ? I mean , what if this God went agaisnt everything one believed in ? For excample , for Christians , what if it was Satan ?
