I have found my way here as I am becoming more and more concerned at the rising power of fundamentalist religion in both the Middle East and America.

But my view is you do not overcome such threats by ignoring them rather shining a light of reason where there is the darkness of closed mindedness.

I would characterise myself as Athiest as all reason points in that direction.

Of course I am open to be proven wrong, but if one day I stand in front of the Supreme Being and am asked why I did not believe I would say that having been given the gift of reason, curiosity and the ability to evaluate evidence I used it to the best of my ability and the evidence was just not there.

If this is a sin then so be it.

Welcome, I hope you like what you find here. There are many paths of belief represented, and we learn from one another.

Hi, Joe! Welcome to RF. I hope you enjoy yourself here. I've got to say that my first impression of you is very positive. If this post is characteristic of what we can hope to see in the future, I'm looking forward to hearing more from you.

Sin is just another word for something that generates negativity. Some religions have applied it to too many things...

Greetings and Welcome to RF...

Friend,
Firstly Budhha never spoke of any god; others who have been understood by few.
Understand that all forms including the body you live in and all non - forms are energy [scientifically] and when all this is put together you may call that god if you like but that may be called universal energy and each sepearte entity individual energy. The individual energy can merge and be a part of that god ONLY through meditation or ZEN or dyana.
What you are and you feel are all your personal things; affects or changes nothing.
Love & rgds
