My translation of Didache 2.7

"You will not hate any person, but some you will rebuke, some you will pray for, and some you will love as your own soul."

I just think that the rhetoric of this verse is beautiful.

do you think each one is separated from the others?...like, 'you' would not pray for the ones you rebuke..

I think that rhetorically they are parts of the whole - the "some" are parts of the "all humanity."

I think the point is that we love everyone according to our relationship with them: we rebuke those in sin, we pray for those who persecute us, and love our neighbor/enemy. The author is recalling specific biblical commands in the NT.

My translation of Didache 4.1

"My children, remember night and day the one who spoke the word of God to you, for where the lordship is spoken, there the Lord is."
