GOP Revolts, House Republicans Storm Impeachment Deposition

About two dozen house republicans stormed a closed door deposition on Wednesday to complain about the democratic-led impeachment inquiry.

The conservative lawmakers, led by Republican Rep Matt Gaetz of Florida, barged into the deposition and demanded they be allowed to see the closed-door proceedings where members of three committees planned to interview deputy assistant defense secretary laura Cooper as part of the impeachment probe into president trump.

obviously this was a political stunt aimed at derailing the proceedings and distracting Americans from the trump administrations dealings in Ukraine.

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
That discussion/debate has already been going on in another thread.

From my understanding there are Republicans already sitting at the meeting so I'm still determining as to the reasons behind the intrusion.

Personally I viewed it as a stalling tactic. For what purpose, I don't know.

It does get a little disconcerting when such things are held in secrecy in a designated secure room with closed doors.

RF already has a couple of threads about this.

New information includes Republicans complaining that the depositions scheduled for Wednesday, the day that they disrupted the proceedings, were rescheduled for today(Saturday), and they don't find Saturday convenient.

the games the republicans are trying to play are clear. They don’t want those officials testifying, the day before trump tried to distract by comparing dems trying to impeach him to lynching. The dems didn’t take the bait. And then you have these Shenanigans by the republicans on Wednesday. At the end of the day, the republicans don’t like the fact that there are republicans testifying and not falling on the sword for Donald trump because they don’t want to go to jail.

the republicans don’t like

Republicans haven't "liked" anything since Bill Clinton became President, .... except maybe Bush's victory over Gore in the hanging chad election and the overthrow of Saddam Hussein. Oh, yeah. I forgot: and the fact that Hillary didn't win in 2016.

What bothers me is that Lindsey Graham is now complaining about the closed doors for the initial inquiry when he promoted such for the Clinton impeachment. Hypocrisy is annoying to watch.

Could you list the Republican Congresspersons that were in the closed door hearings?

Are you unaware that they already got entrance to the hearings, and are now complaining that the rescheduled hearings are not convenient for them?

  • 13 Republicans involved in impeachment protest already have access to hearings
  • The following screenshot was taken from the link above.

  • So, the closed door meeting that was "mobbed" by Republican Congressmen involved the House of Representatives
    • Committee on Intelligence,
    • Committee on Foreign Affairs, and
    • Committee on Oversight and Reform.
  • All members of those three Committees, as well as their staff, were entitled to attend the hearing that was "mobbed".

  • Here's the link to the House of Representatives Committees: Office of the Clerk of the U.S. House of Representatives
  • And here are the lists of current members of each Committee:allowed in the room:

    • BTW, it should be noted that

Followup on my last post #12:
  • A total of 111 Congressmen were entitled to attend the closed door hearings.
  • Of that 111, 48 were Republican.
  • Of the Republicans who "mobbed" the closed door hearing on Thursday, October 24th, 13 knuckheads were entitled to attend the hearing but decided they could get more publicity and put a smile on Trump's face by "mobbing" the hearing instead.

There is an old trial lawyers’ saying “When the facts are on your side, pound the facts. When the law is on your side, pound the law. When neither is on you side, pound the table.”

You don't know what is going on.
But you want the Republicans to break the law for partisan political points.

Gotcha.
Tom

It shouldnt be the law for the dems to conspire. It should be against the law. And it should be against the law for communism to have any foothold in our government AT ALL.

Swat team to the rescue!
