Gospel According to Thomas

gnostic

What's your favourite sayings in Thomas' gospel?

My favourite is the 2nd saying:

The Gospel of Thomas said:
Jesus said, "Those who seek should not stop seeking until they find. When they find, they will be disturbed. When they are disturbed, they will marvel, and will reign over all.
So as an agnostic, I am seeking. And still seeking. I've found a lot of thing that disturb me, but alas, nothing that I've found to marvel at. :banghead3

But being philosophical, you have to enjoy the ride. :bounce

Reaching the destination is only part of the journey, so look out the window as you follow the path. Otherwise, you will miss something that may tickle your fancy. :(

*smiles* most definatley agreed! I love the Gospel of Thomas. Lots of sayings in there are good! Some i like just because they are THAT disturbing and wrong... but I'll pick one that's just thought provoking instead... *smiles*

Yeshua said, "Be passerby"

...contemplate THAT heap! *smiles*

Ooh ooh! I have another one! (i'll prolly get really annoying with these posts... but oh well!)

"It will not come by watching for it. It will not be said 'look, here it is' or 'look, there it is.' Rather, the father's kingdom is spread out upon the earth, and people do not see it."

It always makes me think... and when people Tell me where to seek God, i always think about this verse...

Saying 70:

"Jesus said, 'If you bring forth what is within you, what you bring forth will save you. If you do not bring forth what is within you, what you do not bring forth will destroy you.'"

(Lambdin translation)

Yeshua said, "Images are visible to people, but the light within them is hidden in the image of the father's light. He will be disclosed, but his image is hidden by his light."

Saying 102:

"Jesus said, 'Woe to the pharisees, for they are like a dog sleeping in the manger of oxen, for neither does he eat nor does he let the oxen eat.'"

My favourite saying is probably the last one 113(not counting 114),it has a very Gnostic flare,

113 His disciples said to him, "When will the kingdom come?"
"It will not come by watching for it. It will not be said, 'Look, here!' or 'Look, there!' Rather, the Father's kingdom is spread out upon the earth, and people don't see it."

That's the same one that Button have chosen, except that he left out the saying number. So two of you agree on saying 113.

A friend of my from another forum have chosen saying 107

Jesus said: The kingdom is like a shepherd who had a hundred sheep; one of them, the biggest, went astray; he left (the) ninety-nine (and) sought after the one until he found it. After he had laboured, he said to the sheep: I love you more than the ninety-nine.
Why she chose this, is because the "big, fat sheep" reminds her of me. I supposed I should be very flattered. I'd guess that I'll need to go on a diet.:biglaugh:

In the Gospel of Thomas, does it seem to anyone else that Yeshua is kind of tired of repeating himself? It seems as though he's told them all of these things before, and they listen, they just dont "hear" it. I see Yeshua banging his head on the table trying to get through to this followers... I know I would...

That's hard to say, button. Thomas' gospel in its current form, doesn't give us much in term of person's expression (in this case, Jesus' expression), so I don't see how we can determine if he is tire of answering the same questions or not.

Well, he keeps saying the same things and "hear me!" and "listen!" He has the patience of a saint.... (haha, funny ashley)
