Granting Permission To Quote From You In Other Threads: Add Your Name Here If It Is OK With You.

Sometimes we might need to quote from other forum posters to support a point of view, open up a new debate, and so forth. But we need permission from the forum poster If we wish to do so. Instead of wasting lots of time I thought that if we could add our names in this thread then it would mean that we automatically grant such permission. You can also if you feel to do so stipulate your own conditions. This is what I think will be helpful and make things a bit easier. Thanks  :yes:

You have my permission to quote from me in other threads.

I would prefer if I was asked before the occasion if it is ok to post my material and to show me exactly what will be quoted. That way I know what to expect and know to get involved in the discussion/debate.

How about you ask the member about the post itself, instead?

"That's an interesting topic. Can I quote you on that for a new thread?"
If they say no, don't quote their name or the thread.
If they say yes, Bob's your uncle.

I get quoted now and then.
But usually in the same thread, and usually for discussion.

I don't see the harm in quoting someone else.
Most often it is done to support what you are doing.

I can only hope you are following a good nature guideline.....such as...
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Recently I posted as much as I pointed out my tendency to quote the Carpenter.

I also pointed out that because I do such things.....He and I will meet....
and we shall have that 'day of reckoning' that you hear about.

If I have done well, using His word...fine....no problem.

I prefer being informed via PM or something before hand if the post that a user wants to quote is from another thread. Did not happened to me just yet. :p

I can be quoted by anyone at any time without permission.
I want only that it be:
- Precise (no word changes)
- In context

I charge a fee of one frubal.

But we need permission from the forum poster If we wish to do so.
Do we? Do you ask for explict permission to quote from external sources (websites, books, speeches etc.)? I'd suggest that whatever we post here is in the public domain and others are free to quote it somewhere else. It might be considered polite to ask but I don't see it as a strict requirement.

There is, of course, a moral responsibility to quote completely and accuratly within the correct context.

Without wanting to cause any trouble; on what basis? I did recheck the rules before my previous post, hence the opening question, but I may have missed something.

In short, courtesy: the person didn't give permission, and isn't aware of it being used to create a whole new topic. Some people even forget to mention it and the member only finds it after something like... I dunno, 37 posts and 478 views.

The rule it goes against... I can't recall off hand. I'm going senile in my old (25 years old) age. :sad4:

Hmmmm.....so if from a different thread to quote (even copy & paste) someone I wish, their permission needed is?
Their permission needed is most certainly!

Except if you take out the author.

So a new thread with an opening which quotes someone like this:

Hmmmm.....so if from a different thread to quote (even copy & paste) someone I wish, their permission needed is?

Is not permitted.

However, technically:

Hmmmm.....so if from a different thread to quote (even copy & paste) someone I wish, their permission needed is?
Is fine. I think...
:D
