Greetings I'm new here

Hi, I'm new here and as my name shows I'm an Asian Activist.

More specifically, I'm an Asian-American activist and part-time political commentator currently based in Taiwan. Some of my issues of focus are: religious freedom, racial equality, migrant rights, LGBTQIA rights and gender equality. I strongly believe in fighting oppression wherever it can be found and a strong anti-racist.

I am interested in religions and the interplay between so-called "traditions" and progress to modernity. Also if you notice my handle's initials are AA which is a tribute to Ayn Rand ("A is A") whose writings initially inspired my Anti-Racist activism:

Racism is the lowest, most crudely primitive form of collectivism. It is the notion of ascribing moral, social or political significance to a man’s genetic lineage—the notion that a man’s intellectual and characterological traits are produced and transmitted by his internal body chemistry. Which means, in practice, that a man is to be judged, not by his own character and actions, but by the characters and actions of a collective of ancestors.

That's all for now.

I did flick through a PDF version of The Virtue of Selfishness a while back and I remember thinking Rand's view on Racism was rather novel because I hadn't heard it described as a fault of collectivism. It came as quite unexpected to someone who is more used to thinking of racism as a product of economic discrimination in the marketplace, but it can't really be denied that it is as a collectivistic ideology that racism leads to legal oppression (rather than systematic economic inequalities). So it was very intresting.

Welcome to the RF, enjoy it here.
Little off-topic: LGBTQIA, what on Earth?! When I was a kid it was LGBT, then LGBTQ and not LGBTQIA? It's just expanding, what do the IA stand for?

Basically, I identify very broadly as a "liberal". For instance I voted for Obama twice and generally fall to the left. Of course it's never that simple.

I consider my beleifs a mix of left-libertarianism, with a dash of anarchism and Trotskyism. I'm skeptical about some aspects of capitalism without rejecting it altogether but my main focus is social issues rather than economics

Please tell me that was the first, last and only thing you took positively from anything ever written by Ayn Rand.
