I am an atheist, but I am highly interested in religious subjects. I like to discuss and debate these subjects.
Current reading: Sabbatai Sevi, The Mystical Messiah, by Gershom Scholem.
Before that: The New Testament Code, by Robert Eisenman.
My ideological attitude towards the Bible is basically modeled on that of Thomas Thompson, as laid out in his book, The Mythic Past.
My position on religion in general is based on William James. I lean towards atheists like James, who seem to have some respect for religious belief, versus polemicists like Hitchens and Sam Harris, who seem all too eager to throw the baby out with the bath water.
