Gun Threat At My School

Saw11_2000

These have been happening very often recently. One today, one tommorrow, and we had one about 6 months ago. What do you think about gun threats? Everyone should be taken seriously, with a pinch of salt whatever. Someone made an interesting point saying that vacation starts saturday, maybe the kid just wanted to shut the school down and start vacation early. Another person said that since the "bomb threat" was today in which "the school is blown up", how could there be a gun threat tommorrow in which "everyone dies at 8AM" tommorrow if the school wasn't there?

Opinions please.

I need to make a note that they DO know about it.

Someone pulled a gun at my boyfriend's school yesterday.

I can understand why someone would do something that drastic. What I can't understand is why people persist in thinking it's just a joke. Why would anyone not take that kind of thing seriously?!

Dear Parents,

As a follow up to yesterday’s letter regarding the unsubstantiated general threat we want to inform you of any and all current happenings. On Wednesday April 13, 2005, we informed you of a general threat found with no specific names but did state “Everyone will die April 15, 2005 8:00 A.M.” It was found in a boy’s bathroom. When the threat was brought to our attention, we immediately notified our School Resource Officer and are following our threat protocol with a full and thorough investigation. The police department is working with us as partners and has assured us of an increased police presence on Friday April 15, 2005.

At approximately 11:35 a.m. on Thursday April 14, 2005, I was informed of a new general threat that was written in the boy’s bathroom in the cafeteria. “25 Bullets for my Friends”

School will be held business as usual on Friday April 15, 2005 at XXXXXXXXXXXXX High School. To help ensure the safety of our building tomorrow, we will have only two areas of entrance to the school building. The only areas of entrance will be the bus drop off in the cafeteria and the main entrance in the front of the building.

We want to reassure this community that we will continue to investigate each and every incident seriously. If this, or any other general threat were credible and substantiated the school community would be informed immediately.

We will continue to be caring and diligent in all matters concerning the safety and well being of our students, while providing a quality education. Please contact me if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

XXXXXX XXXXXXX XXXX

Well that sounds like a pretty straight forward threat so I'm glad they are taking it seriously. I always chuckle a little when a school shuts itself down from fifth hand study hall gossip. Better safe than sorry though. I had a bomb threat at my middle school once. Scary ****.

When I was younger (and stupider, obviously), I actually called in a bomb threat. I had been hanging out with some new people, they pumped up to the task, and then got me to do it after supplying the quarter. I don't know if I ever revealed that on here before, I'm kind of embarrassed by it. I was going through a phase where I wanted to physically vent my anger at the school system (albeit this was a very ineffective way). I've learned a lot, and realized that a passive resistance is a much better way.

To sum it up, I was discovered (one of the "friends" confessed to having given me the quarter). Thus, I was expelled, illegally (I was given no hearing at the board of education, which is clearly defined as legally necessary before expulsions in this Territory). While I was temporarily expelled, before my full expulsion, some of my "friends" pinned a computer hacking on me, a teachers, and claimed I was selling the exam (I had no part in this).

I don't know about other people who do this, but I did it to physically rebel against the school, and to vent my frustrations. Clearly it was an ineffective way. Despite how wrong the schooling system is (IMO), this is not the way to bring about change.

Sounds like a good plan to me. Props to whoever reported it, that always takes guts.

^Yeah, I would have told them if I saw anything, but frankly, I just don't go into their bathrooms, they're nasty and smell like smoke.

like Saint said, better safe then sorry. lots of teen agers "vent" about school (i did), but if someone's talking about an actual plan it's better to look into it than wait around and see what happens.

Saw I didn't know you were still in H.S. About the gun threat what is even more annoying is much more often than not a number of people know about the perp long before the incident matures. Peoples "ostrich syndrome" is so dangerous and self-harming.....Hopefully schools will see this and put together school programs where students and teachers (mostly students) are encourage to tell insteads of pray or hope nothing bad will happen or refuse to "nark" on their buddy. I would be very suprised if a number of students don't already know who is responsible.

I've heard names, as well. But all of them have been told to teachers and stuff. The teachers were even talking to us about it.

Good to hear it. To expand on the one I was talking about from my junior high school someone wrote the lyrics to Will Smith's Millenium (or whatever the song was called). One line went something like

At 12 o'clock the roof will be blowin'

Needless to say we spent the entire rest of the day across the street in the high school gymnasium.

It is very unfortunate that some people are so afflicted with such low self esteem that they find it necessary to inflict fear on others. They truly need guidence in sorting out thier emotions. They need help to find the respect and love they so truly desire. Fear is at the bottom of this soul's actions. Fear of not being loved, wanted, respected or understood. This soul wants to be noticed in some way by their peers or by adults. This is their ill conceived way of gaining some recognition. Even if it is just a hoax by a student to get the school to close, it is still a crying out for special recognition by their friends, a search for a certain power, do you know what I mean?

If you do go to school tomorrow, just pay attention.Don't go anywhere alone. Remember that the teachers are just as nervous as you are.I commend them for showing up to work under such circumstances, and so should you and the others. All of you are in the same unfortunate situation, but I am sure that there will be enough police around to ward off any potential threat. If something should happen, stay calm, stay low and wait for direction. If I could take this fear away from you and your friends, I would gladly do it. No person, expecially young people, should ever be exposed to such fear in their lives. My prayers are with you in particular and also with all who will be there on Friday.
Let us know how it turns out. I am sure nothing will happen.

Love
Martha
