Halloween -- Bah, humbug!

The thread on pumpkin carving just brought it home to me. My least favorite holiday of the year is almost upon us. I feel like such a horrible scrooge, but I simply cannot stand Halloween.

First off, I hate the combination of black and orange. Consequently, I find Halloween decorations to be simply hideous. I find all of the blood and gore depicted by so many of the costumes disgusting. And Halloween candy, for the most part, is gross. I didn't even particularly care for Halloween when I was a kid. I've never liked getting dressed up in costume and have always been uncomfortable wearing tons of make-up, wigs and masks. Where I live, it's usually pretty cold Halloween night, so we always had to wear coats on top of our costumes. So on top of being uncomfortable, nobody could even see how we were dressed.

I hope all of you have a great holiday, even though I won't. I'm going to find a good show on TV and ask my husband to handle the trick or treaters. Is there anybody out there who feels like I do?

Black and orange are lovely colors when separate, but don't look very nice together, I'll agree!
(When I was 6, I thought that they were 'witches' favorite colors', hehee!)

You may even want to rent a movie for that night, since there might be ads on TV. I suggest something that you've always wanted to see but haven't gotten around to. (That always takes my mind off of holidays I don't like!)

Sounds like a winning idea! Thanks!

Let us know what movie you decide on! (If you go that route, that is!) Maybe we can have an RF movie-watching day and post our reactions. :D

My sister used to hate Halloween, too. I'm bad at ages, but she was around four and I was about six when we got all dolled-up for our first trick-or-treating together. She was a Cabbage-Patch doll and I was She-Ra, Princess of Power. (Still the coolest costume ever, I dare say.) We were very excited, but when it came time to go, I started heading out the door and she grabbed onto the couch and wouldn't let go. The next year, she was brave enough to be able to leave the house, but when we reached the church at the end of the block (whose parish we were living it at the time), a teenager ran up to us in a werewolf mask and did the whole "ooga-boogah" thing.

I can't remember ever going trick-or-treating again.

We enjoyed Halloween. My mother was a master on the sewing machine and the costumes she created did two things.
  • It gave Mom a chance to break out the sewing machine and the thinking cap.
  • She provided many embarrassing moments for my sister and I to look back on.

Some of the costumes not featured here is Donald Duck and Minnie Mouse and Oscar The Grouch and Big Bird (I’m still pulling yellow crepe party paper out of my mouth).

There are some things you may want to consider when looking at these pictures.

We always came in first place at Halloween Contests.

The 1970’s were simpler, unoffending times.

If I hear anyone laugh, I’m taking them down.

My mom was an excellent seamstress, too. I always had elaborate costumes, not the store-bought plastic ones that ripped apart at the seams. I was a Japanese geisha girl one year, an Arabian princess once, a 1920's flapper, and a gypsy. I always looked great :p but I never liked the holiday, and I hate it even worse as the years go by.

i was a dragon in kindergarden, and my mom made some nice costumes for a while. I was a wizard one year, and i think she stopped around second grade, because i got a store-bought pirate suit that year. i didn't do halloween last year, i was too bummed out. I'm going to be chewbacca this year. i'm up for some free candy.

Nope you're a scrooge. :)

I'm probably going to be Derek Zoolander again because I'm "rediculously good looking."

I actually hate holloween, too. I have never really been much of a candy person. And it's always really cold here, too. Another thing, we have dogs, so the entire halloween evening is people knocking on our doors, making the dogs bark very loudly, and then having that happen all over again. We started a tradition of just renting movies and going to my dad's work to watch them where we wouldn't have to hear the dogs. Consequently, I think black and orange are bad, too, but there was a team in our conferance at high school with those colours. their gym was ugly!

Thank you! And we have the dog problem, too. ;)

I demand to see your Magnum! :149: But, really, Jonny- There's more to life than being really, really, ridiculously good looking

It's showing up on my computer in the post. Maybe you have to wait a minute - and I am doing Magnum. And I have to disagree with you - nothing is more important. It's not my fault I'm ridiculously good looking and I have perfect bone structure.
