This Hanuman Jayanti I say this old prayer. It may be familiar to you if a devotee of Lord Hanuman. Around the next bend, turn in the trail, I think, perhaps Hanuman will be there. I know He is out there. I know. Around us, Lanka is burning.

I pray this to You, my Lord:

The four-fold fruit of Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha, is given to the one who believes with faith in the Master. Today is the time to speak of the virtues of You, Hanuman, the ocean of knowledge, and the Shiva-Shakti of the Kapi Clan. You are in fact the divine messenger of matchless powers that some cannot understand, though you are known only as the son of Pavan, born of Anjani. You are of golden hue, and wear fine ear-rings, and locks of waved hair. You wear the sacred thread of jute as Vagyopaveeta, and are awarded a personal flag as a mark of rare heroism. You are the servant of Rama. You are Shiva, who descended to aid the Prince and King to defeat the ten-headed. You bestow cherished objects. You are the greatest ambassador, highly learned, of fine speech, who can speak many languages, but always speaking on behalf of Shri Rama and Mother Sita. Besides fine speech, You are an ardent listener, especially in the
narration of the Epic of Ram. You are of fine strength, though only seemly a monkey, and set all of Lanka ablaze and destroyed the Asuras. You are a healer, and brought the Sanjeevani herb to restore Lakshman back to life. You restore death to life. You are a magical Physician. You are the secret bringer of the most important of good tides, the first messenger, just as you brought to Sita the first message of the approach of Ram as She was held captive in the garden of Ravana. You also bring the taraka mantra while in Your form of Shiva, whispered into the ear of one at the minute of death. You can fly. You dashed to the Sun as if it were an orange-fruit to be picked from a tree, and You crossed the shores from India to Lanka to find Sita. One who asks for You in Name, you in return annihilate maladies and pain. You come in the time of crisis. You save nations. You are a guardian angel. You bestow siddhis. You can take human form, or the form of a small being. You are of benign grace. You are still among us in this world. You promised, so long as there is at least one in this world who recites the story of Rama to another, so long you will remain, in this world. I have heard that You are also Nataraj, the Lord of Dance of the dissolution of the universe. The arhats have said, nothing can stop the march of time towards that dissolution. But here is the noteworthy secret. So long as there is one who recites the story of Rama, so long You will be with us as Hanuman, and the drum in the hand of Nataraj will wait. Because You are Him, but He is now You. And on the day that there cannot be found one who recites the story of Rama, then on that day You will leave us and become the Lord of Dance, the One who holds the drum and the burning chakra. So the drum and the chakra, it is in our hands. And that is why there is Ramayana. You are the name Hanuman, who saves nations.

Be your own guru
My verse from Tulsi Rama Charit Manas: Jambawanta's advice to Lord Hanumana.

"Prabasi nagar keeje sab kaja, hridaya rakhi Kausalpur Raja."
Enter the city and achieve all that you intend to, keep the memory of the King of Kaushalpur (Lord Rama) in your heart.
"Jai Hanuman jnana guna sagar, jaya kapeesh tihun loke ujagar"
Hail Lord Hanuman who is a sea of wisdom and virtues, hail the King of Vanaras who brightens the three realms.

Jai Jai Hanuman! :)

Unfortunately, I have to work this Hanuman Jayanti. :( I always seem to be working on important dates and holidays, and it's become so difficult to request days off.

Me too, actually it is this Saturday April 4 here in my area the local Durga Temple I go to which also has Hanuman is having "April 4th - Hanuman Jayanti - call to sponsor".

But I will be at a UC Berkeley Campus Tour this Saturday, and you also have to work as many others. What I will do is pray and give offering that day in the morning at home, and carry a small picture of Hanuman in my shirt pocket!

The Durga is the local Devi for this area, it is open 5pm to 8pm 7 days a week, I might try to call or go by tonight to find out about sponsorship, and if I get back from Berkeley on Saturday for the evening it is open until 8pm.

Here is our Hanuman and of course our Beautiful Durga Sherawali:

Happy Hanuman Jayanti to all (today here in California)!

Interesting, this morning the moon slipped fully into Earth's shadow at 4:58 a.m. Pacific Time, 7:58 a.m. Eastern Time, a so called "blood moon" lunar eclipse.
