Happiness

Greetings one & all!

Just wondering ... what do you feel is the key to happiness?

Here's a video featuring Matthieu Ricard, who is known as "The World's happiest man" although he himself scoffs at the title :)

Enjoy your day!

The key to happiness is not having what you want, but wanting what you have.

I'm very lucky. Mathematicians are one of the happiest professions! Plus, I have a lot of love in my life. That always helps.

Happiness IMO is a state of mind. One has to learn how to willfully create that state.

If you need material things to create that state then when those material things are gone so is your happiness.

If you can learn to create happiness without the attachment to material things then that state can't be taken from you.

I think the extent to which someone is happy depends in part on their genetic make up (some people seem born happier than others), in part on the quality of their relationships with their friends and family, and in part on other factors -- such as whether their physiological needs are being adequately met -- or perhaps more importantly, on their learned attitude towards life (e.g. some people expect little and thus are often pleased to get more than they expected).

Happiness is a perspective. We just need to play mind games with ourselves to create happiness.

This is true with any other emotion.
