Today is Orthodox Easter, and tomorrow is the start of Sham Ennessim, an Egyptian springtime and national holiday as well as being a festival dating back to ancient Egypt.

I just had some fun reading up on the Egyptian festival and found a fun coincidence (presumably) with Easter eggs:

• Egyptians spend all day out picnicking in any space of green, public gardens, on the Nile, or at the zoo.
• Traditional food eaten on this day consists mainly of fesikh (a fermented, salted and dried grey mullet), lettuce, scallions or green onions, and lupin beans.
• Coloring boiled eggs, then eating and gifting them.

OK, I missed this. I was Eastern Orthodox for about 10 years. Easter, aka Pascha, is the high point of the year. We used to greet each other in both Greek and Russian.

Christós anesti ... alithós anesti.
Christós vóskrese... voyistinu vóskrese.

Meaning "Christ is Risen ... Indeed he is risen". I'm not Christian anymore, but it won't kill me to be respectful.
