Has anyone at this forum seen a ghost?

If so, do you have a photograph, a video, or an audio recording?

I recently heard that about one third of Americans believe that ghosts exist. I personally do not.

I'm not sure. I had an experience that was so swift it might have been my imagination. The weirdest thing is that a house guest claimed to see the exact same thing (a young blond man standing and then vanishing) a couple of weeks later and he had not heard about my encounter.

So I'm not sure, but think it is possible.

Well, with all of the supposed evidence that ghosts exist, there should be far more documentations than there are. Where are the photographs, the videos, and the audio recordings? Why don't ghosts ever consistently show up in the same place where anyone can see them who wants to? Why don't ghosts ever appear in front of thousands of people at the same time in one place?

There are plenty of examples of groups of people seeing them.
There are also pictures of ghosts, or what people claim to be ghosts. In the town I grew up in there was a famous picture of a young boy ghost who was sometimes spotted on the stairs of the art center. There was a photograph of him walking through the front stairs. But even photographs are not considered good evidence. There's always a thousand explanations.

Have I seen a ghost, nope, but he was still there.

I was living in a boarding house in the college town of Hammond Louisiana. The house was supposedly haunted and I had heard the stories, but all those stories centered on the upstairs and I lived in a room on the first floor. One morning the alarm went off and I rolled over and switched it off. As I lay there, working up the energy to get out of bed, I felt something sit on the edge of the bed. I opened my eyes and I swear there was an indent in the bed. I closed me eyes real tight and I felt whatever it was get up. I opened my eyes and I thought I saw something by the door leading outside, but it was just the coat rack with a dark overcoat and cap on it. So I closed my eyes and reflected on the fact that I was managing a bar in a college town and it was possible that I had been indulging in the party life just a little too much. Then I remembered, I didn't have a coat rack.

So, I rolled out of bed, quick as I could and ran through the shower. I went to work at the college bar where my landlord also happened to work. I was there first and while I got things ready for opening I had pretty much convinced myself that it was all some kind of dream. When my landlord got to work I told him the entire story which he listened to without a word or smile. When I had finished he told me that the person who stayed in that room before me had told him the same story, but without the coat rack.

Now I did some digging on the house itself and turned out that it was originally owned by a river boat captain. I remember that the coat rack I saw had an overcoat on it and that I had thought it was a peacoat. The cap on top I had thought was my Greek fisherman's cap. Could it have been the overcoat and captains hat of a Mississippi Riverboat captain? Could it have been the captain who sat on my bed, or maybe someone looking for the captain, checking to see if I was he? I have no idea, but I know that I indeed had the experience.

I've had so many supernatural encounters that I would be remiss if I denied that such things exist. However, I do interpret such things differently than your common Westerner who believes in such things.

I have never seen a ghost but a part of me would love to. I try to be reasonably skeptical of ghosts. What I mean is that while I am open-minded to the possibility that ghosts and other supernatural entities exist, I am very skeptical of the proofs presented so far. As far as peoples' individual encounters go, I just mentally categorize them as "anomalies". People have experiences and since I wasn't there when the experience happened, to perform tests and search for natural causes, any way I explain it is ultimately my own educated guess.

A part of me actually fears encountering a ghost. What if the ghost is real and is mean-spirited or evil? What if I, say, go to a cemetary to do an investigation and an evil ghost follows me home and harasses me, or worse, possesses me? So, I have mixed feelings about this. I'd love to know if they're real but I would be hesistant about the risk of being followed, possessed, or harrassed by any such beings.

If you're accepting personal anecdotes as evidence, I have had more than one encounter with (evil) spiritual beings. Look up "Sleep Paralysis", there's a reason why so many people ALL have the SAME STORY of a demon trying to sit on their chest. I was able to peel mine away each time, and I hope it never happens again.

if ghost is defined as aperician that warrents a image that is formed and disappears...
yes i have. At a time & place I would have never suspected.
My objectivity was niether thinking, continplateing on any area linked to it occuring.
once it happened i could only sermize (since i had no truth as a reference point) that whoever it was passed recently & did not seem to seek or support communicateing.
just slowly appeared enough to make out what it was; Then vanish quickly.

Thought I saw something fly across the welding shop one night when I was doing my security rounds. I made the other janitor do the rounds for a couple of weeks, he thought I was a nutter. I finally figured out it was the glass on the door throwing a reflection from the hallway lights. And I don't even believe in spirits or souls.
Just shows you how deeply engrained this stuff is.

I think it's easy to be skeptical when you've had no personal experiences. But once you are confronted with something in life, it's very difficult to just ignore and explain it away. So when people start yapping on about science to someone who believes they have seen a ghost, for example, that 'science' talk can seem like utter rubbish.

So imagine if your experience had been more confronting and real.

Never seen a ghost.

I have, however, experienced (not physically seen) what was probably a "genius loci" - but not a deceased person.

My sister swears blind, to this day, she saw her ex-husband's deceased father who had died that morning (before anyone knew about it).

I've had sleep paralysis on and off since I was a young child, but I've never had a demon sitting on my chest. The feeling of dread that accompanies sleep paralysis is all in your head.

Well, sorta. Where I work we have "ghosts". Basically, a "ghost" is an item that our pda scanners suggests is in a warehouse shelf location but....but.....IT'S NOT THERE! :O

I haven't seen one but the video on the youtube are fake. I think they can exist but they may be in the places abandoned by humans but I think that they don't like humans and dont want to approach them. Some people who say that they see ghosts can be schizophrenics themselves.

The charlatans on shows like Ghost Hunters claim to use "science" all the time.

I saw something years ago, that for lack of a better term, I have referred to as a ghost.

I was in college at the time. It was about 10 pm. I was sitting at the kitchen table with a friend. There was a small hallway that led from the side entrance of the house to the kitchen. My friend was sitting with his back to the hallway. I was facing it.

I noticed a light that was appearing slowly in the hallway off the kitchen. My first thought was that it must be car lights from someone pulling up to the house. The house was in a rather rural area and was set far back from the street. We did not usually experience seeing lights from cars, except when someone had come down the long driveway and then turned toward the house. I figured that either someone was coming over unannounced, or my roommates were coming home early.

When I looked at the light, I noticed that it was in a human shape -- and appeared to be an older woman, with her hands folded in front of her. The shape moved toward us, through the hallway -- not a far distance, about 4 or 5 feet total. Then, it faded out. It did not disappear quickly -- just faded. I did not feel afraid, but instead felt comforted. It felt like a grandmother figure was just coming to make sure everything was o.k.

I think my jaw must have dropped, because my friend was staring at my face and said something like, "What? What is it?" Then, I told him in the only words I knew to explain in, "I think I just saw a ghost."

No recordings or pictures. I didn't seek it out. I didn't expect to see it. I can't deny that I saw it. Perhaps there is another explanation of "what" it was that I saw, but I saw it as I described it.

BTW, I don't believe in ghosts, but I believe in demons, which are what those that think they've seen ghosts have really seen. I've had experiences with the demonic and firmly believe in Satan and his minions.
