A few days ago there was information that the Taliban would not allow girls to attend schools above the sixth grade.

I don't think the Taliban think with one mind. Maybe they have some things in common. I also suspect there is a lot of disagreement within the ranks.

The Taliban has often said it would allow girls education past age 12 -- probably to try to get international help and so on -- but it most often doesn't, mostly, in reality.

Overall, the freedom for women appears likely to get worse:

So, the most reasonable guess is to expect to hear they will allow schooling past age 12 if X, but then it won't usually happen much.

That seemed to be their thing when they stepped out of the shadows. Promise things that make them look like they might be changing but no it is still the same Taliban.

The leopard has not changed its "spots" but they've gotten a bit lighter so it's tentatively a minor bit of good news which is of course subject to being reversed at any time.
